Has anyone hunted the Rebel's Cove or Indian Hills conservation areas? I was supposed to head down there and muzzleloader hunt with a friend who now has to have surgery. Might head down for a couple days just to scout the area now.

gets alot of pressure during the rut bow season, rifle season and the alternative season. On top of that it was hit with a sporadic EHD outbreak this year.

I just got back last night, stayed in Kirksville for a couple days and met some really nice people but the hunters were pretty tight lipped , especially when I wore a Packer cap. Walked Union Ridge, Sugar Creek , parts of Rebel's Cove and Glenwood. Beautiful country and the deer seemed to stay in the bottoms of the oak draws. Bumped one really good buck ( definitely a shooter) and hunting pressure seemed pretty light compared to up here with mostly bowhunters, not many with muzzleloader. I had hoped to find more thicker areas that still held deer after gun season and may have to branch out farther.

Very different with mostly acorns and locust pods being the food source that I noticed, not many crops near the conservation areas. Squirrels the size of my Chihuahua and lots of Turkeys.

Looking to go down next year for muzzleloader.

Randy, I am looking into the same area and remember the Kirksville area and even looked into Sugar Creek ( 2600 ac.) small for what I am used to but should work. I'm glad you seem happy with what you saw cause I am all but done hunting northern Wis. Thanks for the message!!

I need to find out more about Big Creek and also the Memphis area. Kinda funny how people wanted to know if I was from Louisiana or St Louis, apparently they have issues with hunters from those area. Having a hard time finding maps of State lands.

Heard the deer down there taste better than up here.

Several groups from LA hunting near where I was in Howard County.
May be handy to get to MO and deer to shoot!

Like anything else, the taste depends on what the deer are eating. I don't much like acorn-fed deer, but I sure do like the corn-fed farmground deer where I hunt, about sixty miles SW of where you went. Find deer that eat corn and soybeans, in addition to the usual browse and acorns, you'll have some tasty deer. Big Woods deer that eat mostly browse and acorns are awfully strong-tasting, to me. Happily, the county I hunt is mostly farmground, with just some brushy patches.

You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Michigan deer taste very strong compared to the corn-fed ones we have in Central Wisconsin. Not excited about Mule deer either but maybe that was the way I made it, same as deer here.
