My dad ended up with this rifle from his father and really knows nothing about it.
So was hoping you guys can help educate me on this rifle.
Sorry it's not for sale. But if y'all can give me a ballpark estimate on value that would be great.

From the serial number it shows to be a 1941 manufactured rifle and is the last year of the Case coloring. Overall it is in "Good" condition

No it has Model 1936 stamped in it.

I wasn't aware they were case colored. IMO the 32 WS is a preferred cartridge over the 30/30. They are more efficient.

Is it a regular carbine? A sporting carbine or a rifle?

I want to be able to take it hunting just long enough to kill a deer with it. I do plan to take it to a gunsmith and have it completely inspected and tested before I fire it myself. There's no telling how long it's been since it's been fired

It is a regular Carbine and is heavy as crap but appears to function as it should. I do know that over time the main spring can get weak and cause a failure to fire from a light strike on the primer

I would say it is worth about $600 with out photos.

Had one in 30-30 that was in great shape. They are really beautiful rifles. Unfortunately, I let it go in a trade because I refused to D&T it for a scope (my eyes don't allow the use of irons any more). Should have kept it just to look at it from time to time!

I bought mine last year,32 special,decent case color,the bad,some one cut the stock 3/4'' and added recoil pad.Blueing is 80%.I bought it off of I think Marlin Owners for $500.Probably been$ 7-800 if not cut

Have a sporting carbine in .32 Special. The bad thing about it is I am limited to the barrel sights as the receiver's not drilled for a peep sight (or a scope). The tang is drilled for a tang peep, and I have one that fits, but the tang is too short so the bolt wacks it before its fully open. Nice solid rifle but not as svelte as my Win 64s.

I too need a scope and don't drill waffle tops.

Solution is to buy a flat bottom Weaver base and glue it on with JB weld. Will never come loose with normal use. Several 100 rounds through my 1947 30-30 rifle with a heavy 3-9x40.

Easily removed with a touch from a propane torch and leaves no mark.

Awesome for deer and bear,killed this 305 lb Black Bear with mine at about 80 yards one shot through the neck and exited the right shoulder,dropped on the spot.

Really? Not messing with you, I just have never heard of anything like this. The torch loosens the JG Weld from both gun and mount? I am going to have to try it, but not on my waffle top.

Considering that people repair engine blocks with the stuff, I wouldn't think it would be susceptible to heat release at low enough temperatures to avoid damaging the rifle. I'm not brave enough to try it.

While what 3040Highwall posts might be true, this could easily be just another in a long line of BS posted by that infamous troll, Larry Root. Larry gets banned from this site every time that Rick finds out that he is posting again. Larry must go through several different handles on this site every year.

I think that JWGibson's posts about Larry in 07/14 say all that ever needs to be said about what kind of guy Larry Root is.

BTW, Larry sells on GB and other sites, so if you see a seller with a Pinedale, WY, address, you might want to read all of the feedback before you bid.

Here's one in 30-30 that sold at Auction for $2,300. I would imagine the 32 would be a little more unique.

LOL thats a pretty unique rifle,not many that nice around,I don't know if thats a fair comparison.

Having done the JB weld base attachment AND removal on several rifles, I can assure you it works fine.No part of a car engine you would fix woth JB gets anywhere near as hot as a needle point MAPP gas torch. (You can't repair an exhauset manifold with JB)
