I've got a few pounds.
It's been around for eons.
Somebody must be buying it.

Why doesn't anyone really ever talk about it?

Curious how it's used whereby not as "....one of the powders that seems to work....," but, instead, it's the only thing you'd ever consider for that particular chambering.

Supposed to be the same powder as Win 760.I use it in my 300WSM.I load .5-1.0grs less than what I use with loads for IMR 4350.

I used it for a long time in my 30/06 with 150gr bullets at about 3000 fps.

using it now in my 7mm-08 works great with most bullet weight. It gives

great velocity in the 7mm-08.

I have heard it was originally made for the 308 win. where it gives top velocity.

The only powder I use for my cast bullet .30-30 loads and has proven accurate in all 3 of my rifles/carbines.

Nope it wasn’t. The original 308 NATO powder was Olin BLc. Now BLc-2. H414 was designed for 3006 and 270 full house loads. Made by Olin distributed by Hodgdon.

BL-C (Lot 2) for full-charge loads in the .308 Winchester and .223 Remington was newly manufactured by Olin in 1961 with 10 percent nitroglycerin, 10 percent diphenylamine stabilizer, and 5.75 percent dibutyl phthalate deterrent, but without the flash suppressant used in the surplus military propellant.

H414 was introduced in 1967 for full-charge loads in the .270 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield

760BR Ball Rifle propellant (similar to H414) introduced in 1968 and replaced by 760 in 1973.

H-414 is Win 760. Just understand there are lot to lot variations.

Great in '06, 7-08, 7x57, .375 (H&H or Ruger). Also Swift and .22-250, especially with heavier bullets.

It gives the best accuracy out of over a dozen powders in my .260 M700VLS with 100-120 grain bullets. Also good in my .338 WM.

I bought a keg because the price was too good to pass up and H4350 was nowhere to be found. I had some previous history with it from 1 lb canisters and it was...meh, ok. Since I’ve had more time with it, it has really shined and is my go to load with the 30-06 and 150’s. During my brief stint with the 7mm-08, it was the only powder I used. Gave great velocity and accuracy with 140-145 grain bullets.

When I got my 7-08 M70 Fwt about 10 years ago, it was the first powder I tried with Hornady 139 SP. Wouldn't group to save my life. Grabbed some Sierras 140 PH's (my general philosophy being that "If it won't shoot Sierras, it won't shoot anything") and loaded with Varget after reading some post from a guy with another finicky 7-08. First session with a max charge, the gun shot sub-1/2 moa. Recently thought I'd try Big Game--still with 140 SPHs--and the target looked like I'd hit it with 00 buck. Went back to the old Varget load and *VOILA* tight groups again. Maybe there's something to this optimal barrel time stuff.....

I have tried 414 in several cartridges over the years. 22-250 w/ 60s in a MIJ Wea MK V, 260 Rem in a Ruger Mk II w/ 140s, 243 with 95s in a Savage, 264 with 100s in a Win 70 classic, and last a Rem 700 ADL in 6mm-284 with 95s.

I like working with the powder. It has good bulk density and it meters from a measure like water. But, alas I have never encountered acceptable accuracy with it in any of my trials. But I always keep a bit on the shelf for the next gun hoping for better luck.

First mistake I made this year, probably be more. Guess I was lucky I only used W760 in My 30/06

and my 7mm-08, also tried it in my 257 Roberts, but use RL23 and MRP with 115gr Partitions. W760 is

one of the best powders for my 7mm-08.

The "go to" for 7x57 in my rifles. Worked well in .257 R and the '06 ....but what doesn't?

H414 is great in the 22-250. It actually works well in the 223 with heavy bullets. 85gr in the 243, 150gr in the 30-06 etc.

Excellent .22-250 and .220 Swift powder. I heard it was quite temperature sensitive but don't know about that.

I'm wondering if H 414 has been unceremoniously been discontinued....
locally I don't see it on the shelves after it was being sold for cheap...

but suddenly, they all seem to be carrying W 760 all the time...

I've used H414 and WW760 in several rifles, mainly the 9.3x62 and .375 H&H and, of course, the 30-06/.308Win. I've played with it in about everything I would use 4350 in.

Loading up some 308 Win with 175 MK's now. I'll just use 47.5 Grs at std COAL - not looking for most speed. Just looking for gong killers for the 5R. LOL.

If that load doesn’t work for you, try 45.0 gr. of Varget, with standard primers. Very temperature insensitive.

I need to use up 4 lbs of H414. One down after 150 rounds. Three to go.

I know there's better powders for the 308, but I don't want to use up my good powders that I use for hunting loads.
