Recently acquired a Cimarron "Presidio" .50-95, the version with the short magazine & 20" barrel. Had a couple boxes of 350 grain Jamison factory loaded ammo stuck away, shot some of it off the bench & found the combination to be surprisingly accurate. Intrigued by the accuracy, I disassembled one of the factory rounds & found it to be loaded with what appears to be Trail Boss, 18 grains. The bullet seems to be closely similar to the RCBS 350 .512 cowboy mould, luckily one of those is already on the shelf. To the question, have any of you loaded a similar load, or some variation of it with Trail Boss? Also looking for information on loading the same cartridge with 5744, have seen data with the 350 gr bullet & 5744 anywhere from 26-38 grains. Any information, anecdotal or otherwise, would be appreciated.

Would seem no one has any experience with the .50-95, or is it shunning of the relatively new guy? If anyone cares, load shot really well. Bullets sized to .512 weighing +/- 355 & 17.5 gr Trail Boss. My questionable eyes were able to keep them within 3 inches at 100 yards.

Don't worry I doubt anybody is shunning you. Try the BPCR forum on here. I'm sure several folks there have experience with this round.

Glad it shot well for you. It sounds like a nice rifle.

Go to the CAS City Forums and find the Winchester 1876 section; the top of the page should have several pages of .50-95 data.

Trail Boss is extremely flexible. You can load the case as full as you want without compressing the powder. The sweet spot for accuracy seems to be about 1/10" below the bottom of the seated bullet. Don't know why, but that general rule shoots well in every thing I have tried.
