Hello to all. I made these 2 guns for a man some years ago, and he is loosing his sight. I feel very bad for him, but reality is something we can't avoid. So he has asked me to help him sell the 2 guns as a set. He may agree to break them up and sell each one separately, but at first he wants to try to sell them together. Both have hand made stocks. The pistol has one of my hand made barrels. I also made the patch box and side plate on the rifle by hand and the butt cap on the pistol too. The rifle has a 50 cal swamped Colorain barrel and a Chamber lock. The pistol has an L&R lock. They are far too beautiful! Tyrone, If they belonged to me, I’d shoot the heck out of em!!! 😁😁😁 My bucket hunt would be a euro hunt for rottwild or damwild with something of the quality and beauty of one of Steve’s Jäger rifles!! To dream!!!! Have a great weekend! Kw

Would love to hear details of the stock. What kind of wood is it and what finish was applied? Colorants/stains/dyes?

Tyrone, the owner has killed several deer with the rifle, so yes they are for shooting and hunting. It shoots VERY well too. I made him a Jaeger rifle before he got the Longrifle in the picture and he killed elk with that one. They are very fancy and artful, but they are still RIFLES and I make them to hunt with and to shoot. So no need to leave such thing sin a safe. Hunt with them. I take pains to make them reliable and accurate. I want my customers to fill freezers with them, of the accuracy and reliability would not be needed.
Gringo Loco.......the stocks are both Sugar Maple and 100% hand made. I have mixed my own dies in the past and I did that by mixing different die powders from time to time, but I made those guns long enough ago that I can't remember what the mix was for the stains. ALL my stains were alcohol based however, but for a few that I used Acid stains on at the request of the customers. Water and alcohol bases stains work best in my experience when compared to oil based stains.
The finish is low gloss Tung oil which is easy to maintain. The rifle in the picture has been hunted with many time in Idaho, in rain and snow and as you can see, the finish is holding up quite well. I like tung because it's easy to match if a customer wants to touch it up 10-20 years later.

Ok, the owner just told me to go ahead and sell them individually if I get any interest. He also has a very nice period correct powder horn to sell too.

domit, I always use one of these for horn fill. But mine has a .223 case on top. And I have many old school GOEX powder Cans. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/89/1/POWDER-CAP-B

Not much action on the 2 guns, even after they are "broken up" as a set. Oh well, may not be the right time of year to sell. We'll just have to wait and see.

Beautiful guns! It takes a while to find the right home for something like these. Fewer folks going into the traditional shooting sport and fewer still who are serious enough to own higher grade guns such as these. I have a high grade Lancaster flintlock,a very nice custom Hawken, and a Chief's grade trade gun. The value of any one of them is more than any two of my modern guns combined. I get more enjoyment and pleasure from the muzzleloaders by far.
Hopefully, it won't take too long for the right person to see these, they deserve to be used and appreciated.

silly question but can brass be powder coated or aged to make it darker? Next time you’re out shooting. Rub some black powder residue on it.

Hi Domit.
Yeah I have had 3 men call, but so far no commitments. Because it's not fully built I can't say the weight yet, but I would guess it's going to be about 8 to 8.5 pounds

Just for information, a man did commit to buy the pistol and rifle, but so far no money has come, so I can't yet say they are off the market. Waiting to hear back.
