You bastids! smile I got neither, mostly - I'm once retired, and still working 40-60 hr weeks!

As JJ says, "there's about 100 things that can happen at long range- and 99 are bad".

I'm just not going to go to all that much work (and time) to pecker-shoot another caribou (btdt - back in November- even if it works!) at some unknown range across featureless tundra... Which reminds me- the freezer is getting a little lean again.

I've found for MY hunting purposes ( I'm a hunter, not so much a shooter.. my preference is powder burns- I don't fire at animals at artillery ranges by choice- only misjudgement... - I will stipulate that other's skill, interests, and weaponary may vary).

My accurrizing steps when reloading is limited to the two most productive steps- using once fired cases, neck sized only (for the same rifle), trimmed properly, and reaming the inside flash hole (possibly not necessary- but it makes me feel better. smile ). I also double seat the bullets- rotating the case 180 degrees between. Probably not needed- but it makes me feel better... smile Not that I mistrust mechanical devices or anything.. Or, come to think of it, electrical, or electronic devices... Hell- I just got me an i-phone a couple weeks back.... smile

But I am buying me a Leupold 800i range-finder soon- an on-line one day Cabela's deal I couldn't refuse on an XPG tent kinda got in the way last week... Even with the rangefinder (when I get it) I'm holding the .260 to 400 yds, or maybe 500..., using factory 140 gr. Corelokts, which give me 2+ inch groups at 300 yards.... or I'll just eat fish. I do kinda wonder what it would do with "tuned" handloads, tho.... smile Hardly seems worth the effort ... I just ain't that anal, tho my wife will testify to me being an a-hole..... smile

I've got a '98 action being fitted with a Finnish "sniper" barrel from Sportsman's Guide. 27 inches and heavy contour, in '06 cal. My new "caribou gun"- once I glass-bed to stock, work up a load, etc. ....totally unnecessary, but hey- I have a "need"... smile Of course- I'm going to be then limited by the range-finder's abilities .... .

It' a bitch, ain't it?
