During Xmas holiday, I drove from deep south Texas, north up thru the panhandle.

Early on, I decided to check out other full-size pickups on the road. I was curious as to how many I might encounter on that long drive that were "regular cab"......not "extended cab" and not "crew cab".

I was somewhat shocked, cuz there were a gazillion trucks I encountered. I did not see a single regular cab truck on the road during that roughly 850 mile trip.

Is there soon gonna be a shift in AVAILABLE pick-up body styles, where Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and GMC no longer produce a regular cab truck?

Sorta like the shift away from standard shift transmissions......so that only automatics are available?

Any rumors or "inside info".....or leaks......???

I( hope not. I like regular cabs because they're cheaper! lol. Plus I just likea regular cab. Most truck buyers don't use a truck as a truck though.

Back in 1985 I asked a Ford dealer where I bought my 3/4 T dually, with extended cab / 8 ft bed, I asked him when they were going to bring out a short box with a full 4 door.He told me they would never sell and had no plans.
Now Dodge has shortened their short box another 3".I isn't ven6&1/2 ft anymore

I’ve always been a regular cab guy but they are sure scarce these days. Still lots of them around here in dually cab and chassis feed trucks as well as pipeline welding rigs. Almost nobody else buys them though as the longer cabs are more versatile in allowing you to haul more folks or kids as well as having a place to lock up more stuff when you have to leave the truck to go in a store or something.

I doubt that we’ll see the regular cab go extinct though. Too much call for fleet trucks and work trucks. For a real hard working rig that won’t haul more than one or two guys the longer cabs eat valuable GVWR, not a big deal for one dude working out of his truck but a huge deal for a big company that might be more apt to fall under DMV scrutiny. This is the reason we only have supercab trucks where I work instead of crewcabs.

8 foot beds are becoming less common too.

We got some around here. Seen some Chevy's and Fords. Don't recall seeing any Dodge. My BIL always bought those due to his business and he plans to replace his soon. Saw a few on dealer lots. Construction guys always made use of the 8s, but yes much less common.

If you see a newer regular cab Chevy truck around here, it likely has Sonora tags on it.

regular cab trucks are sure handy to feed small squares off of. Just swing down into the cab when done. These new-fangled crewcabs make you jump down and run to catch up, just to get back in the damn thing....

I like the extended cab because it gives your wife a place to sit when you and your dog are traveling.

The usual stuff that goes with you for a 5 day trip....

My truck....Chevy 2500HD 4 door crew...wouldn't want to do it in a regular cab truck

Unless the reg cab had a bed cover or topper shell to carry items & keep dry & protected

Have two other Tacoma trucks......both 4 door as well....just like the extra space

Toyota hasn't made a regular cab Tacoma in several years.

There are several in this part of western South Dakota. I would guess most of them I see are GM trucks. Not many Fords and I don't recall seeing a Dodge. Most are owned by ranch people I think.

UR two doors short............

Extra-cab is my choice as I own only 1 4-wheeled vehicle. The small back seat area is a great place to lockup my portable tool kits and to stow groceries, etc. And on those rare occasions I have carried extra passengers.

I love a regular cab with rear slider!I’ve noticed the same though. Seemingly few and far between.

I have a reg cab LB f250. It’ll go only because I have a couple little ones.

I like the room behind the seat. Nice to have room for my junk and other important stuff.

I bought a 2015 Ram with the standard cab and 8' bed. I had to have the dealer order it. He didn't even have a standard cab to test drive.
