Anyone load these in a Remington 700LA? Trying to figure out if I would run out of OAL and be stuffed too far in the case.

You'll be fine, 280AI case length to the neck shoulder junction is. 2.182 180 Berger O.A.L is 1.506 Boatail length is. .243 Subtract 1.506 - .243 = 1.263 C.O.A.L is 2.182 + 1.263 = 3.445 seated with boatail bearing surface junction at neck shoulder junction of brass.

Gentlemen I appreciate your insight. Was between the 6.5-06 with 147s vs a 280AI with 180s for a friends build.

An 8 twist 280 AI would be a fun gig...

With the 180s being viable in said platform I’m fairly certain the 280AI gets the nod.

The 280AI becomes serious Elk Medicine with the heavier bullets. I have a 1-10 twist so top out at 168 grain bullets, get the 1-8 twist you will not regret it. I reserve the 175 grain + bullets for the 7 RM but with the proper twist the 280 AI is pretty close to the 7 RM. Keep wanting a 6.5-06AI but hard to justify with a 25-06, 270s both standard and short and the 280 AI already. I am really liking my 6.5x55 and am resisting the temptation to run an AI reamer in that rifle, hard to improve on perfection.

Anyone have a preferred powder/charge for the 280AI shooting 180s? What kind of barrel length? I’d be looking in that H4831- 7828/H1000 burn rate.

I'm using Ramshot Magnum under the 180 ELD-M's in mine. Nosler brass with a Fed 215 in a 26" Rock Creek barrel. It's a shooter, compliments of Shaen.

Friend is fire forming Lapua 30-06 brass with 180 ELD's and 56.2 gr of 26 at 2,750 or so in a 24" Proof Shaen built for him on a 700.

I'm shooting 180 Scenars w/ RL26 in my 22" Beanland @ 2,750. Can't remember exactly off the top of my head, but I'm jumping them a little bit. That's w/ a Defiance 700 clone, and COAL will never be a problem with any imaginable bullet.

I tried RL26 initially but didn't get the accuracy. Ramshot Magnum showed promise with 175's ABLR so I tried it with the 180's. I stopped at 63.5 grains and never saw any pressure signs. Using Quickload with my specifics, it estimates 2832fps. My last time out I averaged 2844fps at 35`F.
