Was calling coyotes with a friend over weekend. When calling, we are often separated from each other by 10-100 yards and often can not see each other.
Couple time this weekend one of us had a coyote working and the other guy did not know it and stood to end the calling session and busted the coyote.
Would be nice to have a small signal device ( not a $800 I phone) that could signal the other guy, we have a coyote coming. Was thinking a small wireless device that each could carry that had a small led light that when a guy saw a coyote, they could push a button and turn on the other guys light and both would know there is a coyote coming.
Any thoughts on this?

Have had that happen, and have found that it's usually best, for me anyway, to be able to see the other person. That way, we can signal each other if the other sees something.

Old fashioned walkie talkies......key the mic, and it clicks on the other one. Double click means want to go? One click means not yet. If you are ready to leave, then just answer the double click. Keep the volume low, and clip it on your collar, opposite of your shooting side.

We simply make a single (fairly quiet) “Whaaa” sound with the call. If it’s returned, we both know the coast is clear.... if there is no response, it means sit still and STFU because there’s a coyote coming in. The sound also won’t spook a coyote.

Since we run mostly ecalls these days, we've adapted to the guy doing the calling playing crow sounds when he is calling the end of the stand. If the guy downwind has eyes on a coyote, he simply blows on a hand call to signal to keep calling. I've even blown on the hand call enough to call a coyote on in, on occasion.
This weekend we are going to try an experiment with the new Luckyduck Roughneck call. I think we will be able to have two different remotes linked up to the call at once which will enable the guy downwind to take control of the calling if and when he can see a coyote that the main caller can't see. The remotes on these calls are amazing as far as distance away from the call that they work, weather over a hill out of direct line of sight from the call, or not. It'll be handy if the two remotes linked at once works.

i play a little tune on my mouse squeaker when its time to leave.

When set is over caller usually just blows on hand call 3 times. It is not a normal sound out of the call and this alerts partner that set is over. Partner will respond with his hand call if he does not see anything and ready to go to next set. Has worked good over the years.

Yes, maybe play the tune, better yet, sit within eyesight. It’s also for safety reasons, to know exactly where the partner is.

If the terrain calls for it, very open, there may be reasons to be 100 yards apart. In thick cover, two of us are often within 10-15 yards.
