Craig County here in Virginia has no stoplights. It is not a large county by western standards, 330 sq. miles or a little over 211000 acres, of which approximately 112,000 acres are Jefferson National Forest. Only 5064 residence estimated as of 2018.

Highland county Virginia has a flashing light at the intersection of Rt.220 & Rt250, but no stoplights in the county.
416 sq. miles and 2,200 population.
5th highest average elevation above sea level east of the Mississippi.
5th least densely populated county east of the Mississippi.
5.5 people per sq. mile.

Not sure if this is "one up" or a "one under" post but my county is 4937 sq miles and the population is 4300 - no stop light in the whole county.
Admittedly the sq mile vs population is a bit misleading because the county is 97.3% Federal or State land, it is not crowded - but a lot of it is only accessable by foot or horseback.

I believe this would be a better world if we all live in the country, or a small town. The city folk don't know what the are missing.

Family is spread around multiple counties in VA and WVa... I know where my grand parents lived in Monroe County WVa, there is one flashing light in the county, in the county seat of Union...which has like 400 people in it..... its located at the Junction of Rt 3 and US 219....I don't remember how long ago it was, but it was broken ( wasn't flashing) for like 3 years... until they got around to fixing it.. of course a stop sign would work just as good...I'm sure it probably had to be voted on to be purchased long ago...
I miss places like that...here in our town, my old place, we had to go thru 19 red lights to get to I 5 to go over to Medford..
took as long to go thru those 19 lights... as it did to get on I 5 and drive 32 miles over to Medford...
county out here... its about the size of Rhode Island... local school district puts 10,000 miles a day on the school buses getting all the kids to school and back home again...
