I have a Remington 03A3 rifle and a Husqvarna 1640 Lite 30-06. Would a Dayton Traister trigger work in them and would it be and improvement? Are the Dayton triggers a single stage trigger and would one of their safeties work on a Springfield?

Have one of their triggers on a 6.5 Swede. Seems fine and way above the original military unit.

.......... Same here......... It's nice and I like it. Although I used to have a Timney Sportsman trigger on a Swede and that was nice, too.

Timney and/or Bold triggers are head and shoulders above the D/T. I've installed a grand total of one Dayton-Traister trigger- - - -my first and my last!

Yeah I had a DT in an 03-A3 which somehow slipped short on seat engagement and started firing when bolt was slammed shut. Installed Timney Sportsman & fired several thousand rounds with no problem.

Not a fan.

I have three of them, all on LR Model 98 Mausers. I've had one more than 40 years and it has served well without a single hiccup. That rifle has been used in some nasty weather of snow and rain. Another came with the Henricksen 257 Roberts I acquired over a decade ago. A few years back I bought my third one for FN actioned HVA. I swapped the new trigger with the one on the 257 and the switch made both triggers feel better. They are adjusted to have the same pull weight for each rifle and all feel the same to me.

My single experience with a Timney was for a HVA 1640 and installing it was more than my limited skills wanted to tackle. I gave it to the late gunsmith Franz Byner (who had worked for Flaigs) when I had him adjust the factory trigger on the HVA 1640.

Perhaps I'm not very discerning on how triggers feel but I'm happy with the Dayton Traister triggers I have.

I have a Dayton trigger in my main hunting Mauser, I like it a lot. I think they are a very good "hunting" trigger.

I haven't had good luck with Dayton Traister triggers. I've put them in Ruger 77 Mk IIs and Ruger 77/22s. Can't speak to Mauser, but based on the 2 I've done, I'd do something else.

I find the original triggers on Ruger 77's are some of the easiest around to work up. A little tuning, but I'd never replace one.

This is my "go-to" dangerous game rifle. It has accounted for one rhino, three elephants and five Cape buffalo. I have used it for over 50 years now and it has never failed me. It is built on a P14 Enfield action with a Dayton Traister cock on opening conversion, as are all my P14/M1917 Enfields, and I have never had a trigger problem with any of them. I had a gunsmith, now deceased, who swore by them and was a specialist in installing them. I think the "problems" with the trigger are more due to faulty installation than any inherent flaw in the design.

The caliber is one of my own design, the .505 SRE (Short Range Express), the middle cartridge of the three in the photo. It propels a 570 grain bullet at 2150 fps, the same as a .500 NE. The case is a .460 Weatherby case, shortened to 2.500" and necked up to accommodate a .505" bullet. It was developed in collaboration with John Buhmiller, who created a similar wildcat on a full length .460 case.

I bought one from Brownells, but even though both the FNs I had the proper cut in the cocking piece as described in the instructions, the wing safeties wouldn't function. The trigger pull was just fine. Another down the road project added to the pile.

I have a commercial FN Mauser that had a DT trigger in it when I bought the rifle. Trigger pull was very light and when I finally got around to checking it out it was 1.5 pounds checked on a digital scale. While I would like to bring it back up to about 2.5 pounds, the rifle is so accurate as is I just don't want to mess with possibly screwing something up with the bedding or they level at which the screws have been tightened. I look at it like, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I put that barreled action into a McMillan stock back in 1988 and either did something right or just got plain lucky. Frankly though, I do prefer Timney triggers and have put them in my other Mausers.

I called Timney yesterday about the feasibility of using one of their triggers with the safety, but keeping the wing safety to preserve the bolt-locking feature. No problem, they said. I also figured out the mod I have to make to get the safety working with the D-T trigger. Now I just need to make up my mind.
