Not a long range shooter. Never shot at an animal over 325 yards. Got a Dall sheep hunt in 2021. Want to be prepared if necessary. What is the best budget dial scope that is worth having? If it's 1000.00 model so be it. A cheapie that's crap is no bargain. Tell me my options straight up and I'll have to decide if it's worth it.Thanks.

Post this in the Hunting Optics forum and you will get more replies. I just started dialing last year and on the advice of members here I put a SWFA 3-15 on my 270. That along with a ballistics program and some coaching got me confident to shoot past 700 yards.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

Hard to beat a fixed SWFA. Tracks well, returns to zero, extremely durable. For a bit more money, the 3x9 has got amazing reviews.

The Nightforce shv is a great scope as well.

Jordan,

What advantage do you give to the 3-9 SWFA that the fixed SWFA 6X MQ does not have at 1/2 the price?

I replied in the Optics Forum, but if I could afford a guided dall sheep hunt, I would find a way to afford a 2.5-10x42 NXS for your rifle....

A lower-profile and better (IMO) turret design, brighter glass, more versatile magnification range. For a pure hunting scope these advantages outweigh the disadvantages IMO, which are that the fixed 6x has parallax adjustment and more erector travel.

At the price Doug was selling them, this would certainly qualify as a budget LR scope with amazing value.

I’d get something In 2-10, 3-12 or 3-15. Like the tract.
While 3-9 is fine for hunting, when you’re at the range it’s nice to have little more zoom. And you got almost 2 years to play with.
When I shoot my 270 on 8” gong at 600 yards with 3-9 with CDS. The 9x just is not enough. I’d want to be covered from short to long range, I say something little stronger than 3-9.
Aim small, miss small

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.
