Sure can't compete with that menagerie. We use:

154CM
CPM-S30V
VG-1
CPM-3V
440C
420HC

and next season we'll have added CPM-M4, and M390.

That ought to handle it, even on those time when we get two bucks down within a day or two of each other.

Always said you have the nicest collection of and taste in knives that I've seen. I suspect Journeyman may give you a run but haven't seen as many of his knives. Also, I know you have a lot more knives than you shared in the post. You thinking of starting a museum?

BTW, I also have a Taurus Titanium but mine is a .38 and my wife calls it her gun. A 16 oz J frame is a wondrous thing.

G.W. I remember when Rick came back from Missouri with that piece of damascus he had forged in Don Hanson's shop.

10/4

No way to verify on my end, but IIRC Rick told me that what I call the "Monkey Puzzle" damascus was the first forged damascus knife he ever made, as he was a stock removal guy rather than a "heater and beater".

[Linked Image from i38.photobucket.com]

I don't keep as close of a track on what Rick is doing these days as most of his stuff is now on Instagram or Facebook,

[Linked Image from i38.photobucket.com]

but IIRC he told me that this was the first knife he made with a "hamon" and is marked "proto" on the backside. It also has pinned bolsters with copper inlay, and mammoth ivory scales,

[Linked Image from i38.photobucket.com]

I have only one more of his that has a "hamon"

Once again time, among other behaviors have taken a toll on my memory. IIRC, this Tanto is the first "Howe Mountain Knives" (Dale Howe), I got from VinceM, who I have labeled "The KnifeFather", as he made me so many offers I could not refuse.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

I'm a knife slut, but over the years my taste has evolved to a degree as to what I collect. I was at the height of collecting "semi-skinners" at this point. I had found that I could contact a maker, tell him about a knife I had in mind, maybe send a drawing or a picture, inquire if he worked with certain steels and what handle material he thought would be appropriate with that style of blade, and whether he would be interested in fashioning such a creation. Dale has always been been very accommodating in that regard. Ram's horn is one of my favorites as the texture allows for a good grip when its 100 degrees out and the tallow or fat that starts melting when skinning hogs in that heat. Here is the gist of something I posted on another forum.........

A while back I had the opportunity to talk to Dale Howe about some of the blade styles and scale materials that I like.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

I've long been a fan of the Green River Buffalo Skinner, and I also like carbon steel.

I had recently acquired a knife from Rick Menefee that had rams horn scales. I like the texture and durability of rams horn.

I asked Dale if he had ever worked with 3V, and if he would consider something along the lines of a buffalo skinner inspired blade shape out of 3v with rams horn scales.

Well lo and behold when I got back from the lease, this little beauty was waiting at the P.O. Box

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

The ambidexterous cross draw is my favorite for carry

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

The red liners and the way Dale grinds and polishes give a translucence to the scales that is finer than frog's hair.

BTW,

[Linked Image from i38.photobucket.com]

it works like a charm!

ya!

I think Spyderco could sell a lot more of those new knives if they made them in other than burnt orange handles. Hopefully, they'll see that there's nothing wrong with boring black FRN and G10.

Skinners are my favorite pattern.

Menefee - proto stamped.
Howe Wyoming - super lightweight.
Winston - #69
Dozier - something or ‘nother

Thanks, Rick.

In sheer numbers, you're right. I can outlast all here... but:

In quality... I LUST for some of these blades!!!

Funny part: I may have heat treated some of them... wink
