https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...retires-at-28/sl-BBYZjuc?ocid=spartanntpThe latest Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly announced his retirement on Tuesday night. The news stunned the football world as Kuechly stepped away after just eight seasons. In a video, the 28-year-old talked about now being the right time for him to step away from the game. A seven-time All-Pro, Kuechly is coming off a 2019 season in which he played in all 16 games and recorded 144 tackles. - Sportsnaut He had two years left on his contract with the Panthers and was set to earn almost $11 million in 2020 as the franchise transitioned to a new regime under recently hired coach Matt Rhule. - Sporting News Kuechly joins a growing list of NFL superstars who decided to hang it up early. - Panthers Wire

Hard to believe a guy who’s probably already made millions decides there’s more to life than football.

I would suggest that many players would jump at the chance to be on the Panthers roster. Luke has made a reasoned choice for himself. I wish him the best for his future.

He’s got to be worried about his health. I don’t blame him a bit for walking away while he’s still relatively healthy. All the players with any sense have got to be living in terrible fear they’re going to suffer from CTE in the future.

That's a lot of money to leave but he's a smart man to walk away while he can

GREAT player and a good dude to boot. Our local fan base will really miss him. Kuechly jerseys are everywhere around here.

Gronk be smart too. He's taken a few whacks, and probably decided he's okay having a less-painful retirement.

He has probably been smart with his money, unlike most of the crazy black players.

Yep, if he has amassed just $4 million of his prior earnings he could draw about $200,000 a year with risking any of it. Independently wealthy for life by normal person standards.
Unless he gets divorced of course....

. . . or over $5000 a month income if he didn't want to touch the principal. In the right portfolio, he could get that PLUS a sizeable growth over time.

Just 8 years? Isn't that about 4 years longer than the average player?

My take is that whenever a player decides to leave the NFL, it's the right time for him. If he's played for 8 years he already has more money than he'll ever be able to spend and he might want to be able to walk when he's forty.
