Just ordered some Ultrex Suretouch from Jantz.
It is layers of G-10 and rubber. Rubber must be quite spongy as they told
me that I should freeze it before working it.

Gonna try it on a fillet and bird and trout.
Maybe I should use a more stain/rust resistant blade material the M4, but.....

Anyone have any experience with such a handle material??????

Tim

Sounds interesting.

If it’ll hold up and give the handle a grippy feel I’d like it.

Yeah, the grippy feel is what I am looking for.

I ordered the color with 3 different camo color layers of G-10 and fourth layer black rubber.

Even smooth, bead-blasted camo G-10 is pretty 'grippy', without adding rubber, or jigging or checkering/grooves. At least on pistol grips....

Well then, the added black rubber layers make it just a bit more grippy without the bead blasting.

Guess I will have to wait for the warm up to know how it works with fish slime.

So how does that blade pattern look.

I am planning on using it on bass, pike and walleye and maybe a back strap in the fall.

michiganroadkill,

I just ordered some of this to try out. Spendy, just got enough to do one knife with and see how it is. What was your final verdict? Did you end up liking it or not?

Yeah, I like it .
I am about to ship a knife to sakohunter264 with that material for scales also.
That knife is a drop point hunter pattern. We will see how he likes it.

When sanding on a belt sander, that rubber layer is quite grabby.
So firm grip, but light pressure.

Cool thanks! If my order arrives when it should, I should have my scales on by sunday eve. Super excited to try it out.

If you don't mind me asking, what grit did you finish with?

Coincidences, coincidences... I missed this thread until today. Last week I ordered a new Bark River North Country EDC from KnivesShipFree with the green/black SureTouch handles. I like them! They don't look much different than the regular two tone Micarta handles but add enough extra grip without being overly "tacky".

BGG,

How does the texture finish up?

I like g10 bead blasted for a “tacky” feel.

I have never messed with G10 before, didn't want fiberglass in the air. smile

So I don't know how it compares to plain G10, but it's definitely grippy, might be directly proportionate to how much rubber is exposed? I'm ordering a big chunk of this stuff this week and will add it as an option. But definitely making a few more with it just to try at least. Was kinda odd, as the scales were flexible, wasn't sure how it'd go setting pins and grinding. Turns out it went just fine. I finished on a pretty worn out 320 grit on my 1x42.

So, the material worked up fine for you. How does it work in use?????

Unknown still. Other than dicking around with it, and handing it off to others to mess with I haven't actually used it yet. Giving it to my son, so hopefully will have a report how it does in field in a couple weeks.

I'm going to make myself a knife with it too here when I have time and I'll post here with my opinions. But at first blush my expectations are that it'll be pretty cool.

I did a filet with that handle material and really was impressed with the grip.

Sakohunter264 just sold one here with that handle material on a Pro Hunter.
