I spend the winters in an area where there are about 100,000 snowbirds. The restaurants are jammed up with geezers and geezerettes. The geezerettes, almost every one of them, will sit down at the table and put the smart phone right next to them and immediately start pecking away on it, totally ignoring the other people at the table. Yes, they drive the same way.

I live out here too, and yes...REALLY.

Was talking to my sister as I was driving down the road one day ( yeah...yeah..I know...) She is in Michigan and just narrowly avoided a 60 car pile up...I had seen exactly six vehicles all morning...

Yep, well, that is exactly what the 18 yr. old girl was doing when she drove her new Pathfinder into the side of our Jeep this past October. Totaled the Jeep, wife had a badly bruised rt. arm and shoulder. Could have been much worse.

Some idiot fat black female 'tard just missed my truck by about an inch in the parking lot at Sam's an hour ago staring at her phone up in her face driving with one hand.

I told her it was a good thing she missed or I'da beat every window out of the Jeep she was driving.

Is that really what is so interesting?

My wife goes on Facebook and to me it is fairly boring. Certainly nothing that I would bother to view while driving a vehicle.

Sam;
Good afternoon to you sir, I hope that the Chinook has blown in for you folks and this finds you warm, well and dry.

Here in BC it's so bad that they've not only made it illegal but there's stiff fines if one gets caught. With all that we still have folks running over pedestrians, cars, cattle and various other sundry obstacles on the road that they "didn't see"...

A couple springs back we flew down to San Antonio and then drove down to where my brother in law and sister in law winter in Weslaco. I've got to say it was more than a tad unnerving to see folks blow by us at 80mph with both thumbs on fire as they were texting up a storm.

There was one of those lit up highway signs - we use them here in BC for road conditions usually - anyway it said something like "Please don't text and drive. This year so far 1756 people have died doing so"

Honestly I don't recall the exact number Sam and I am cognizant that there's at least 10 million folks who call the great state of Texas home. Still, that was indeed a statistic that gave me pause, you know?

Up here it's pretty much anyone under 50 who's glued to their phones. It's weird at work at lunch or coffee breaks nobody talks for the first half because they're all checking on what they've missed on their phones in the last couple of hours.

Strange times indeed Sam, strange times indeed.

Regardless sir, all the best to you folks as we head into longer days and calving season.

Dwayne

Epidemic here. I'd bet 20% of the drivers are trying to hammer out a text or read one when they are driving. Open highway seems to be less. City is terrible.

When I sit at a stop sign or stop light waiting to go its amazing how many people are staring down when they go past.

I agree, I see it a lot, and your demographic is spot on, I am just not sure of the psychology behind it. There has to be something.

Traffic jam is when 4 cars are stopped because a cow moose is slow getting across the road.

Dwayne, all good here, 3F right now(sun shine and no wind), big warm-up tomorrow.....

I will admit to texting while driving. Never in town though and only on the highway when there are no other cars around. Rare though at that.

On a more positive note, last Friday evening two other couples showed up at our house and we had beers and laughs for about 4 hours and I don't remember anyone bringing out a phone.

And these are 35-45 year olds with fancy phones.

Needless to say I wasn't tempted to log on the 'Fire and discuss oil filters and chainsaws........grin

Fat's, just tossed a tri-tip on the grill. Ready for game two here, should be a good one!
