I have an Encore 24" barrel 12 twist 22-250 and want to try a Barnes TTSX on whitetail. Where to start? Suggestions?

50 grainers and run em as fast as you can. Yup...for sure And if that doesn't work, step down to 45 grainers, they'll still kill stuff for you. If you dont have to have the plastic tip a 14 twist will shoot up to a 53 grain TSX very well.

Whatever will stabilize. I had a 14 twist 223 that wouldn't stabilize anything but 50 gr Varmint grenades. Rebarreled to 1 in 9 so I could shoot the 53TTSX. Never shot a deer with it but it works on prairie dogs and coyotes and wouldn't hesitate to use on deer if the opportunity presented itself.

Folks, you're confirming my thoughts. 50 or 55gr. I "think" I have a 12 twist barrel. Anyone tried the 62 grainer in a 12 twist?

Try the TTSX as the tip seems to make them more reliable, even though I have never had any of the X variations "pencil" through. Other than that let the barrel decide between the 50 & 55.

If you look at the Barnes site and their loaded ammunition, you will see they load the 50 grainier at just over 3800.

50 grainers and run em as fast as you can. Yup! I load them up for my wife's Ruger. A full charge of IMR 4895/CCI 200 gets right at 3700 FPS. Every time that 22/250 goes off I know I've got to drag something or clean it. Sometimes both. She's shot completely through a couple of huge hogs, including one 300+ pounder and they've never traveled more than 30 yards.
The lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
