I remember in John B's article he wrote about the 6.5 CM he got a couple of boxes of Hornady factory ammo (120gn and 140gn) and it had the load on the box. Hornady loaded the 120gn with Varget and the 140gn with H4350. I guess Hornady would have tried stacks of loads to test and they ended up chosing Varget for 120s.

In my rifle, with the 120 gr. BT, I can get a little more velocity with a couple of other powders, but I don’t get the accuracy of the Varget load.
If we live long enough, we all have regrets. But the ones that nag at us the most are the ones in which we know we had a choice.

My Kimber Hunter likes IMR (Enduron) 4451 behind 120 NBT.
Great velocity. Cleanest burning powder I have used.

RL16 is my choice for better temp stability, but will require crunching powder to match RL17 velocities. H4350 is no slouch.
Don't speculate when you don't know, and don't second guess when you do.

I just had to read the "What's Your Go To Powder for..."
That is all I needed to know.. IMr 4064 or IMR 4895...
and yeah, for the 260, the original 6.5 "Creedmoor" cartridge.. with a 120 grain bullet...
yup.. 4064 or IMR 4895.... not always the fastest velocity, but not far behind , if at all..
and never a slouch in the accuracy dept...
another nifty thing about either powder... they are not scarce on the shelves at most stores that sell powder..
