I stumbled on to these 1922 prices sheets recently.
Probably nothing new.
I just find it interesting that the 1899-x model numbers where still being used in Jan. 1922.
Knowing Savage, there are probably overlapping date price sheets that use the 99-x model numbers too.
It's probably some of the first mentions of .300 Savage & the Combo Kit.

Yes, the model letters were designated in 1921 but the ads and catalogs for 1921/1922 go back and forth between 1899 and 99. They get more consistent on 99 in later 1922 and on.

This is just more info showing that the change from 1899 to 99 was a marketing name change only. The REAL change was the introduction of the model letters and the 300 Savage cartridge. No physical changes to the guns, but a lot of new cartridge options for most rifle styles.

We ignore the 1 year use of 1899 names just to prevent confusion just like we ignore the fact the 99H wasn't called the 99H until 1927, 1924-1926 it was the "Carbine".

These price lists were a surprise to me as well when I ran across one in 2009. Here's a more recent post where we discussed it and the catalogs of the time.

That 1922 catalog causes me to beg the question:

what is the earliest document we know of introducing the 300 Savage?

Late August or early September, 1921.

Here is a quote from an ad from September 10th, 1921 that was titled "AN ACHIEVEMENT - The New Savage .300":

"The model 1899 lever action and the model 1920 bolt action Savage rifle will be chambered for this new cartridge."

In the same vein, what is the lowest serial number of a .300 savage rifle in any model we know of? (this game has probably been played before...)

My lowest is a G s/n 238010 in a cased set. Really thin barrel.

Here's what we have. Remember that all production stopped in late 1920 and resumed sometime in summer or fall of 1921. There is probably a lot of spillover of serial numbers from late 1920 to 1921 since production was stopped on the fly.

Code
233,80x 250-3000 9/27/1920
234,22x 99F 300 Sav
234,71x 99B 300 Sav
236,461 99G 250-3000 (1st 99G according to JTC)
236,909 99G 300 Sav
236,95x 99G 300 Sav 10/13/1921

Ok, I guess that data pretty much narrows down when the .300 savage, 99G and the change from 1899 to 99 occurred.
Thanks for the refresher. smile

BTW - there is a small grouping of Savage catalogs including the 1922 items pictured above available fairly inexpensively.
If interested PM me and I'll forward the info.
