My Savage 1899 has two tapped holes on the left side of the receiver 3/4 inch apart. Could they have been used for a side scope mount? Where could I find a mount like that? thanks

How are the holes positioned? Almost for sure those would have been for a peep sight. If they're near the back of the reciever on the left side and vertical they may be for a Redfield 102 peep sight

If they're on the side and horizontal they could be for a number of side mount peeps. EBay has a good selection of peeps for sale at any given time to help you visualize.

However, if it has holes elsewhere that might support the forward end of the scope then it may be possible.

Could be holes for a Malcolm telescope mount.

Refield 102, Malcom, Weaver T7, Weaver T6, Echo, Pachmayer, etc...

Mitch, we need to see a pic to know which side mount or peep sight it was. There were a variety over the decades.

Rifle is all original and has original Lyman peep sight and two flip up sights so I don't think the tapped holes were for a peep sight. Will send picture when I figure out how to send it. thanks

Two holes 3/4" apart is what led me to think Malcolm scope. That would rule out all the rest, but could mean Lyman/Redfield receiver sight (but the holes for them aren't as far apart as 3/4", more like 1/2"-9/16").

I missed the 3/4" part. That does narrow it down. Coffee hadn't soaked in yet. grin

This is the Malcolm, right? Only one hole on these. Does a later/different version have 2 holes?

Posted the pic over the Savage Collector forum to see if anybody recognizes it. Give it a couple days.

Any extra holes on top of the barrel, or similar to that?

I may have a custom mount for you. I had a 250/3000 that had two holes on the side. A gunsmith built a fancy scope mount.
When I sold the savage the new owner didn't want it. Pm me an email I can send photos.

The holes are quite a bit wider.........
About 2.5 inches apart. Center to center.
But I bet you could get it to work.

Not sure if you're following the discussion in the Savage forum, Mitch.

But it looks like the two holes have been narrowed down to a side mounted old Noske 2.5x scope from the late 30's, or possibly a Boone mounted scope (probably from the same time frame).

Here's an old picture of the Noske mounted on a Savage 99T from the late 30's.
