So My 358 Win was built on the aforementioned action. I do not know much at all about Mausers. I believe this one was built in 1918. I was trying to do some research on the gun, and it seemed like some people would prefer to keep that action at a max of 45k CUP. The 358 Win loads on Hodgdon's site showed max loads approaching 50-52k CUP. It is a beautiful rifle and I really do not want to ruin it, yet would be nice if i could load it to above 35 rem levels. Any thoughts/experiences with that particular action?

Edit- this was already sporterized when dad bought it maybe 15 years ago. It was a nice clean action so I decided to do a build off of it.

Were it mine, I would load using starting loads listed. These will still exceed top loads listed for the 35 Rem.

These actions, despite being a 98, are not as "strong" as a standard Large Ring 98. There were issues with them in WWI which is why they were discontinued. The Polish modified them and continued to use them into the 1920's but they too discontinued the use. The Czechs got it right and went to a small ring, small thread receiver negating any concerns that the Kar's Small Ring, Large thread action caused.

Yup, me, I'd load to less than full pressure loads. Staring or slightly above will still outperform the 35 Rem and still kill deer dead while respecting the design limits of that receiver.
