Lots of emotion in this thread. Who knew how many other men would care if another got fixed.

After our third child was born, my wife and I agreed that I would be the one to get cut. It was a mutual agreement.

My wife made the appointment and I never bothered to ask the doctor's name. When he walked in I knew immediately that his name wasn't Dr. Smith. He had an East Indian type bearded face and his head was wrapped in a dark blue bath towel. By then I was on my way out from the anesthesia, but I didn't see a scimitar before I went blank. When I woke up it was all over.

This was on a Friday morning. I spent Friday on the couch at home and felt good enough by Saturday afternoon that I went out in the yard and pulled some weeds growing in our new lawn. I went back to work on Monday and I have never looked back. For me it was easy peasy...........

And maybe a week later, everything worked just like it had before I met "Dr. Smith"...........

Its the fugging principal.

I think I was about 40 when i had it done, a few months after the birth of our third.

Didn’t bug me much - a little swelling, a little pain, gone in a few days.

For some time after that, i would occasionally get a little aching. Don’t recall when that stopped entirely, probably a couple years and it was infrequent. Less painful than a sore throat.

Wife had previously taken care of birth control - she was on the pill when we weren’t trying to have kids. Vasectomy is a lot easier and less invasive than a woman having her tubes tied.

It is nice not to have to worry about it, and function seems to be the exact same as it always was.

Would I do it again? Sure, but I would wait longer. We were “done” having kids. I wouldn’t have minded another, but she had had enough, and that’s ok.

I wouldn’t get it done when I thought “we were done” having kids, I’d have it done when I was dang sure I didn’t want to be father to another baby. At this point, I’m almost 50 and I know that my late nights will be waiting for teenagers, not changing diapers. But in retrospect, I wouldn’t do it at 40 again.

Sorry to read such a painful series of events! I was almost feeling sympathy pains. Sounds like paying a buddy a case of beer would have been a better bet than the first two clowns.

They weren't clowns. The first was family practice, and he was a good doc. I'd seen him prior. The urologist was pro ably good, Literally a pompous ass.

I also have issues with lidocaine, novacaine, and the other permutations of anesthetics at the dentist. Couple years ago I needed a molar filling replaced. Took three injections to get numb enough for the old filling to be drilled out. Literally Half my face was numb the rest of the day.

My kids don't talk to me.

Next will be the prostate cancer,, it takes about ten years after the steralization..

Why would you care if you had more kids?

Yes, I was under water trying to keep shoes on and a roof over the heads of the three I had.

The stress of caring for an additional kid or two would have probably killed my wife. She was not made to change diapers for twelve or fourteen years straight.

It ain't like you can just send the older ones out to the field to plant extra crops to feed the younger ones anymore.

I stuck around my parents place and helped work the farm or handed earnings over to help support younger siblings until I was twentyfive years old and met my wife. I knew exactly what I was doing and why. No way in Hell where any of my kids ever going to have to worry about the welfare of younger siblings.

Damn! Sounds like you made the right call given the situation.

I always figured if I made more kids, the wife would just have to work more.

BS many on here, including me are WAY past 10 years no issue.

Simple, didn't want more kids. Had 2, #3 gets expensive (bigger house, cars, daycare etc.) At 2 we figured it was a fair fight: 2 against 2, other silly reasons, you only have 2 hands, one for each kid etc.

Lots of reasons, but boils down to, just didn't want any more

Done having kids, not having sex.

Rabbit hunting buddy of mine's wife had her tubes tied after a couple kids. Dang it if she didn't get pregnant at 46. I guess he should have been snipped along with her.

I think a lot of you guys worry too much.

If God wants another little one on the planet, so be it.
