As I explained the start of WWI to my daughter once: A Bosnian shot two Austrians. Austria blamed Serbia. Russia said to Austria "if you take on Serbia we'll back them". Germany said to Austria "you can't let them get away with that!". France said "we'd have to back Russia". Britain said "well, we'd have to back France then". So Germany attacked Belgium.

I remember Sister Ann Michelle saying something about France and Germany arguing over the Allsac-Lorriane when somebody shot an Arch-Duke in Sajeavo that started it all.
Some of the old guys down at the Canadian Legion told me years ago that Canada wasn’t really a country until they participated in the WW1.—they had like a 25% causality rate.
Home on Leave in 1969 i went to visit my Grandmother, in uniform, her old next door neighbor saw me and came over to shake my hand—then he pulled his wallet out and showed me a 3-day pass he had received in 1918.
That’s all I know about World War One.

Japanese ego! Thats how the U.S. got into WW II, but it was already going before that. When Hitler invaded Poland, Europe was enveloped. Before that there were several factors at work. The main cause of WW II was the Treaty of Versailles that ended WW I.
