Seriously doubt that they "rappelled" her. Just plain lowered her is more likely. Cool that they are using a "drone" (everything is a drone now) to assist in rescues now.

More interesting than some idiot falling off a cliff is the article in the link about the couple married 65 years dying on the same day.

did you see this one? https://www.ksl.com/article/4670517...family-is-stranded-by-bad-gps-directionsST. GEORGE — A family of five was rescued after a father and son walked more than 20 miles to find help, triggering a multi-agency response that searched for the group who had been stranded in mud and snow along the Arizona Strip last week. The incident was reported at 7 p.m. on Jan. 6 when the Mohave County Sheriff’s emergency dispatch received a call from a man who reported that he and his family were stranded after their vehicle became stuck in a remote location just south of St. George, according to a statement released by Rachel Carnahan with the Bureau of Land Management’s Arizona Strip District. The man was unable to provide specific GPS coordinates to dispatch due to the spotty cellular service in the area. He told dispatch the family wanted to see the Grand Canyon on their way home from a vacation in California. The family used a smartphone mapping application that mistakenly directed their vehicle onto unpaved backcountry roads along the Arizona Strip at 7,500 feet elevation. The vehicle continued along the dirt roads for more than 30 miles before it became stuck in deep mud, clay and snow. When numerous attempts to free the SUV from the deeply rutted mud failed, the man and his teenage son set out to find help, leaving his wife and two younger children behind to take shelter inside of the vehicle.

You'd think they would figure it out before they went 30 miles.

Same thing happened several years ago to a Calif. couple. The husband, a computer nerd, believed his GPS and drove up in the snow covered Oregon mountains during a snow storm and got stuck on an old snow covered dirt Forest Service road. He,his wife, and baby, were there for days, barely surviving. He tried to walk for help but died due to exposure.

The family used a smartphone mapping application that mistakenly directed their vehicle onto unpaved backcountry roads along the Arizona Strip at 7,500 feet elevation. What do you want to bet.... They decided to take a short cut. Their gps recalculated to find a different road. They tried another short cut and the gps recalculated again, this time on a dirt road. The 3d shortcut and the gps took them there. 99% of the time, the gps will take them by the best route. If you try to override it, you can screw yourself. A car gps is programmed to take you by the best paved route, not on a back country single track road.

This was not an isolated incident. We see it frequently around here. Snow Canyon SP is a spectacular place, but not all that big in total area. It is a few minutes from my house. Seems that a lot of folks these days have a form of entitlement mentality that goes "I have a right to adventure and exciting experiences and to share them with my kids, and 'somebody', the magic 'they', should take care of me and fix it if things go wrong". Extremely selfish, as they put rescuers at risk and cost the public $$. I'm among those who believe that they should pay at least part of the cost of the rescue, if the event was due to their own negligence. It shouldn't be a free ride. Paul

You are so right, Paul. The guy to blame is Stu F. Pidity.
Utah has more National Parks than any other state, plus a plethora of State Parks and other recreation areas. The problem is that tourists hear "park" and think of bluegrass and oak trees. Nothing like that here. It's murderous country, darn near suicidal for folks who wander into it oblivious to its real nature.

At what point did the idiot in the Nissan ever doubt his navigation device. "STOOPID IS AS STOOPID DOES," at least that is what I think Forrest would say about it!
