I recently acquired a new take off barrel for a ruger 77 mk 2 rifle. The barrel I have is a ruger factory finished barrel and is of the same caliber and chambering of the one that is currently on the rifle. Is it possible for a gunsmith to fit the new barrel with out having to recut the chamber? I am asking because I have done barrel swaps on a savage with the castle nut system and it is very easy. I am hearing that ruger rifles are not so easy. what do you say?
Thanks,
Charles

Possibly. Without the moveable shoulder that a nut gives you the lettering or sights if so equipped may or may not line up when you swap barrels. There’s a much better chance that the headspace will be good and no chamber work will be needed, if you don’t care where the barrel stamp ends up. If the lettering doesn’t line up and it bothers you, it will need to be set back far enough to rotate the lettering into position and then the chamber will need to be reamed to set headspace.

Thank you. I was thinking that was the case but was not sure. Really don't care where the lettering ends up as long as it shoots good.
