That's my reaction as well. 48 hours minimum between emails and I am waiting for him to send me a purchase order now. Just three emails back and forth takes the better part of a week.

I have plenty I could shoot them with. I shot a few different loads for research through that old Ruger 77 for a bear hunt last fall and it was uncomfortable after 15 rounds. Unfortunately, I had to shoot it another 15 to see what it did with the various loads I was curious about. I like to shoot but I am becoming less recoil resistant as I grow older.

I would look at ruger American predator. I was looking for a cheap 22-250 that had fast twist barrel for heavy 60-70 gr bullets but accurate enough for pd’s at 350-400yds. I ordered a predator and was surprised at how accurate it was at a price under $400. Put a 4.5x 14 Leupold I had laying around and loaded some 50 gr vmax and 52 gr Amax. Both will shoot around 1/2” if I do my part , with very little load work.

They don't offer it in any of the fast .25 bores or I would probably have one.

Seems obvious to go buy a Wby Vanguard in any of your three cartridge choices. Can be had new for $400-$450

Ruger has released the American in 25-06 - it was the dealer incentive special a few years back. If the dealer sold to a certain level - Ruger sent them the 25-06 as a special release.

I have .260 version from 2-3 years ago.

25-06 in the Predator format of green stock and threaded muzzle, they are on the auction sites every once in a while.

I certainly understand the itch for a different rifle, but .308 is a good antelope cartridge.

Can you PM me a source for a new vanguard at that price? I have not seen any in a week or so of looking.

I say go with a 25-06. I've had a 25-06 Browning BAR for 20+ years and love it. The Weatherby's are cool but factory ammo is hard to find which leaves you to reloading. Click the link below. I have the lefty version of this and she's a shooter!!

Definitely buy a WBY vanguard online and have it shipped to your ffl. I had a wby vanguard in 257 wby that was awesome, it would be a great antelope caliber. Awesome on game performance and really accurate. Unfortunately a junky decided he needed mine more than me. Despite my love of the 257 wby my next antelope gun will be a 6mm of some flavor probably either 240 wby or 6cm

FWIW - I have purchased from them recently and had zero issues.

YMMV

They accepted my offer on the 257 in a matter of minutes. After looking around a bit (and checking ammo prices), I made another offer. I got a wood stocked Mossberg Patriot in 25-06 in excellent condition shipped to my ffl for 315 clams. We'll see how it shoots in a week or so I guess.

Thanks again everyone!
