Got a couple of store bought knees, of a new kind and as such am in a study to tract how well they do, last one was July of '18, was climbing a hill in Montana in November that year to smack the bull that I use for my avatar...

Anyway, time for my yearly postmortem and xray taking at Southern Joint Replacement Center. Sidle up to Nashvegas and get measured for flexation and ability to straighten knees out. Pass with flying colors, in truth no pain at all so much better than the grinding and gnashing of teeth pre-knifing.

Make mention of the fact left shoulder is mildly painful most mornings, Having crossed the bridge to Medicare land, Nurse Practitioner says no additional cost to get pics of it and while I am there...

She comes in after x-rays and pats me on the shoulder then pulls her hand back like "opps" said "honey how do you stand that?" No cartilage and bone spur that needs it's own zip code...

Was a concrete finisher for most of my life, running a bull float requires passing hand over hand of long handle for hours at a time, plus a lot of High School football line play.

Anybody had their shoulder replaced?

Had both my shoulders done in 2018. I had to have reverse replacements due to wear and damage to rotator cuffs. Piece of cake. Three months and you're at 80+%. Only problem is I can't shoot anything much bigger than a 243.

Pain in my left shoulder right now. I've had cortisone in both shoulders in the past. I hope the pain gets better.

Good luck to you!

Is that during recovery or will the smaller cartridges be a permanent thing?

Do you homework on the shoulder. I've spent some time in real physical therapy wards, (In Hospital) The shoulder guy's were the ones screaming in pain. I can still hear them.

I need a shoulder replacement, havent done it. Only lasts 7 or 8 years with my activity level. I use celebrex for inflammation but thinking of getting a small scrip of pain meds. Been fighting it for 15 years. Doc said to do it when i get closer to dying. Cadaver parts were also a possibility to rap the shoulder bone using it as a cushion. I haven't messed with it.

I tolerated the knee surgery well, second time they did not put me to sleep, just did a spinal. My cutter spends a month a year in Central America donating his services, said they do not have the dollars to do knock out work. He saw spinals were a better deal, quicker healing than intubation and all that, last surgery was at 6:00 AM was walking on it at 9:30. Was off of pain meds after three days, even for rehab. I do not like how the narcos make me do, might as well drive a corncob up my hinney...

Not so convinced shoulder is going to go so easy.

No doubt. But, then my Pop was growing a garden and giving away veggies in his late 80s, sterner stuff methinks.

Sorta full time. It's hard getting a real answer since very few docs are shooters. I went to a well-recommended specialist and he said mine was one of the worst he's seen and there wasn't much bone left to attach things to so I'm taking the cautious approach. I'm 60 and more of a shooter than hunter anymore so I've embraced the 22LR and 223.

Is the 80% limited range of motion?? I've heard with replacement, you don't ever gain it back.

That is correct. The artificial replacement parts have a physical limitation to their range of motion.

Shoulder joint replacement is relatively pain-free. All the parts that have the nerves and sensitivity are no longer there.

I just had that done 5 weeks ago after falling off a roof and completely destroying my rotator cuff. Dr. said it should hopefully hold me 10 years or so until I would need total joint replacement.
Almost zero pain - didn't even have to take tylenol or ibuprofen. Sling comes off tomorrow and real PT begins.

Curious at what age do they recommend replacing the joint?? I'm 55 and had rotator cuff surgery 3 months ago. My other shoulder is also giving me problems and I know it's just a matter of time. Not bad enough now to have it repaired.

Worriedman: I have had ONE of my knees replaced due to an injury incurred many years ago.
I am so thankful for the pain relief and ease of walking/sleeping now!
I don't know about shoulder "replacement" surgery but have three friends who have had both done (knees and shoulders) and to a man they all say the shoulder surgery and recovery was a "piece of cake" as compared to the knee replacements.
IDK?
Best of luck to you on that surgery and a smooth recovery.

Shoulder is a more complicated joint....similar to a hip.
