I 'd like to get some input on good loads for the AR-10 in the 147-175 gr range. Don't care about what is good in your M1A or bolt guns. Want to start out in the right direction for quality loads in the AR-10. MB

Try some AR Comp powder. Its performed well in my AR10 308.

45gr Varget & a 175MK. It's hot, I would not start any higher than 43gr.
I'll 2nd the ARComp too. I think 41gr to start.

There's no flies on 45.5 Varget and the Lapua 155 Scenar in an AR10.

I've just started loading for mine (assuming .308) using 43.5gr Varget under a 150gr Win PP.

308's are generally real easy to load for. I tried to use varget , but had better luck with RL15. I also figured since AR comp is basically re-formulated RL15, it was a shoe in. Besides, it has AR in the name... hint. It drops like water out of my powder measure too, so loading 300 rounds per hour on the single stage is a snap...

If you want to go old school, Bl(c)2 and H380 work well.

I am just starting load development for a AR10 and after the first round, 42 grains of H4895 behind a 168 grain Hornady HPBT seems to be pretty accurate. Still have some more tweaking to do.

My AR10 likes that bullet too. I've tried sierra's the same weight, but it didnt' really care for them. and I tried FGMM and handloads with the sierra. No bueno...

I don't reload for my .308 AR10...

I just buy ammo loaded with 165gr soft points for hog hunting.

Have a dedicated upper with a new digital scope, and was sighting in, fine tuning the zero last week...

Walked in adjustment where I wanted it, and fired a 3 shot group after final adjustment.

100 yards.



You don't even want to know what ammo...

I sure can't load it that cheap.

I've used Varget, and IMR4064 behind 168gr Sierra bthp's.
If you, or anyone else is interested, I have 6-700 Sierra's I'm not going to use, I'd sell or trade. 168 Sierra's do expand, and take game cleanly.

Another vote for ARComp, works great in mine. In my rifle I use less of the ARComp than RL15 for similar velocities. Start low and work up. Getting some fantastic consistency with low extreme spreads and low standard deviation using the ARComp.

For accuracy out to 800 yds or so, I made my own near duplicate of the MK316 Mod 0. Using I-4064, and depending on your barrel length, you should find your most accurate load between 2550 to 2650 fps with the 175 grain Sierra Match King. I use Winchester cases and CCI BR primers and my most accurate load chrono's at 2550 fps out of my 18 in barrel. Research the MK316 Mod 0 load it was designed in part to be used out of AR-10 style rifles. That research will give you a starting point for grains of powder to use.
