12 year old designed it.
I made the blade, she did finish work and sharpening.
We did the handle together, she wanted to stain it.
So, $30 trip to the hardware store and,

She was right!

Same piece of wood on my knife (Locust)
looks shabby compared to hers.

Last night, I steeled her knife.
I shaved the arm hair.

So,
I just had to try it on my face...
Not ready for that show, but I did manage to smooth up a decent patch
on my cheek.

Thanks.

It's funny coming from you. And appreciated.
Anything nice enough to brag about is a ways off I'm afraid.
But, it's a knife. It cuts. The rest is improving on the base.

Great way to start her out. That is a solid design. When she is older, that little knife will be a treasure to her and bring back good memories, while still being able to hold its own as a great tool.

Mathsr,
She won't have it.
When she around out I was going to start messing with knives,
She ask if she could make one for Rene.

That's the young woman who has been teaching her about riding horses.
Rene has a cheap, dull old paring knife in the stable she uses to cut
open round bales. Em made this knife or her.

80crv2, it's going to rust. Bad. But....

I'm kind of hoping they like it and use it inside, but their knife,
their decision.

But the way, her older sister hunted deer this year with a M-7 in
a nice laminated youth stock. I cut a T3 stock down for her to
use the 6.5 Sweede. She prefers the Model 7.

It's still being used.

Cool story, thanks for sharing.

You making your own sauerkraut? At least that's what I think is in the jar.

To make one and choose to give it away shows maturity beyond her age. My son made a combat knife as a senior project. He gave it to a soldier that was heading to Iraq. I was blown away. You have good reason to be proud of your daughter!

Boise,
We still make sauerkraut, but don't always grow the cabbage.
I doesn't take too much too make, and it's much better than
store bought.

Don't do much other canning anymore.
Two kids, two jobs, the garden just takes too much time,
and then things need canning right now. And that doesn't
always work. Several years in a row, it got so dry, we didn't get
much to can. When I figured the seed, mulching plastic, plants,
fertilizer... We were way in the hole.

When the twelve year old is out of school, and there is no more
softball, we will have a lot of spare time in the spring.
Might garden again then. Now, it's just stuff to eat fresh.

Dilion,

I've been doing a little fermenting of late and found my sauerkraut is excellent. I buy cabbage at the store. About the easiest thing to make and very good for you.

My wife got into healthy eating and was paying a premium for sauerkraut at our local Woo Woo store. Like $5 a quart she was paying. I make three quarts for $2.30.

Good luck with your knife making.
