I am going to start reloading for a Contender 30-30AI carbine. I am not new to reloading but have not reloaded an Ackley cartridge and need some advice on what dies I need. The ammo will be used in the same barrel all the time. Should I consider neck sizing dies or full length sizing dies? Will a 30-30 neck sizing die work on the 30-30AI case? If not, where would I find a 30-30AI neck die? Specific die suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been playing with various 30-30 ackley variants for quite a few years in contenders, have owned a few different die sets for them.

If you want a neck die set, Redding does indeed make a 3 die set for the 30-30 ackley.....part # 84431....my set happens to be that set. I got that set quite a while ago with a barrel;
otherwise i probably would not have paid the price tag to get them. (Usually around $250-ish!)

The full length Lee set for the 30/30 ackley improved is around $40, the Hornady set is around $80.

Before i got the Redding set, i neck sized by backing my sizer die off around 1-1/2 turns to neck size formed cases, and not bump shoulders.

Also, you can use a .375win FL sizer die body to reduce body size on your 30/30 ackley fired cases...when loading 6.5x30-30ackley or .25x30-30ackley, i usually neck size only after forming,
and then bump body diameter as needed with my .375 win sizer.

Curious. I looked up the drawings - the 375 Win has a smaller diameter in front of the rim, but not by much (0.4212" vs 0.4215") What really got me by surprise was the body taper on the 375 Win in LESS than the .30-30 AI - 0.0063 in/in (.363 deg) vs 0.0072 in/in (.413 deg). I figured it was the other way around.
