There are a bunch of amish/mennonites/hutterites/ buggy drivers that have farms and a store east of Salmon, Idaho. They sell a bunch of stuff dressed up to look homemade but is from all over including China. They do make great sandwiches there and ring you up on an electronic cash register. Running up on one of their heated buggys on a snowy day will make you question freedom of religion.

Back here in Pa we know Amish and Mennonites pretty well. Tourists and yuppies think they are cool but anyone whom lives near them refer to them as white [bleep]. They run their house appliances on air from a propane air compressor. They also know every angle to get around any laws they do not like. Also they reek! Can't imagine fugging one.

They think nothing of trespassing to hunt and shoot any deer turkey bear they see on their property all year long.I I caught them stealing timber I had cut and drug out of my woods into my field. They wanted it for firewood for their maple syrup boiler. Once caught they were shocked I would care if they used it. But they did bring me two hay wagons of cut wood and stacked it to replace my logs...doubt I would have gotten that has I not caught them!

So they want to demolish Amish homes with no indoor plumbing, but San Francis allows schitting on the sidewalks.
Ironic isn’t it?

They are crooks and bums!! They are nothing but a cult... Hypocritical, societal leeches as well. Much like the indian reservations, it sounds so cool and romantic. If you don't have to deal with them.

Usually around here they have some drunk who lays around in a bar all night and can't keep a real job as their driver. Then he hauls them out each day so they can rip off white people with their chitty craftsmanship while he sleeps it off in the van all day , the next day they repeat the process.

It goes beyond private property rights. Far beyond them. This is not 1820, when the only mode of transportation was by horse, and the roads were dirt, and the horse chit could be tromped into that. Horse chit on a paved road stays there until a rain washes it off. I and others paid for that road through the taxes we pay...................that Amish or Mennonite in that horse and buggy does not pay anywhere close to the taxes that I pay.
Do you, or any other modern farmers there, move a tractor from one field to another on the paved roads? Do y'all wash the muddy tires off before you bring it out of the field and onto the paved road others have paid taxes for? Some folks might not like the stuff that's in that mud on their roadways, getting onto their cars/trucks, into their yards/driveways where their children and dogs play. Them chemical spray rigs "never" leak either, right? You know that mud stays on the paved road until it rains too. Then it runs off into the commonly owned waterways. Go ahead, worry about some road apples if you must, you paid for that road. Geno Good post Geno. There's been a few things written over the span of man's time here on earth. One of them has something to do with glass houses. And many of the people commenting here have, in all likelihood, never seen a real live Amish person, let alone lived amongst them. I live in ground zero of the Amish world on the border of Lancaster county and I've never seen a worse disinformation campaign launched against the Amish than I have in this thread.

Ask any older guys who were drafted into military service exactly how many Amish were also subjected to the same service. You all already know the answer. None. They don't deserve any religious freedom. Let alone using it for an excuse for everything. They're vermin. Rather harsh assessment of hardworking people who are absolutely doing important duty (low input farming) and not using up government money. And if we all would refuse to fight in foreign adventures think how rich we'd be as a nation. Rene, The ones I know, if they are paying less taxes, they are more than making up for it with unused social services, law enforcement, jails, and courts. The Mennonites around here, the Friends in a neighboring town, and our little group of Brethren could teach the rest of the nation some valuable lessons about raising youth to be productive citizens instead of leaches on society. That's how I feel about them. What if they kill a few deer? Bet they use every scrap.
Patriotism (and religion) is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

Once again, if you think all Amish , draft Dodgers or not, are involved in farming then you are showing how much you actually know about them.
