Had a vizsla years ago that did that, catalyst being the words "Dead dog!" Took about 3' to teach her that.
Her other best trick was terrifying the Latter Day Saints when they knocked on the door.

I know a guy who was a big Tennessee football fan. He trained his dog in a similar manner. He would ask the dog whether wanted to be an Alabama fan or a dead dog. The dog would immediately fall over and play dead.

I worked with a person whose yellow lab would do that trick. He wouldn't just eat the bird? She would have retrieved the ‘dead’ dog. Key was the pointer finger and “bang”.

The dog would immediately fall over and play dead. Apparently new dogs are being taught old tricks! I knew a guy back in the '60's who had taught his dog the same trick. "Would you rather be Lyndon Johnson or a dead dog?" This is the best thread ever.

In college, we taught our roommates Border Collie the same trick but we would say "College girl" and the border collie would lay on her back and spread her legs.

Was in the ceiling of a police department once, fixing an electrical issue, and you would not believe the holes in those ceiling tiles. Seems like I counted 17 in all. Mentioned it to the captain when I got down, he looked a little sick, and said, “It happens when everyone has a gun in here.” I simply responded, “I don’t have any holes in my ceiling yet. How long does it take to get that experienced?” He was not amused. Surprised I got paid...
