Can of tuna or marshmallows in a live trap. Approach trap very slowly and calmly with an old blanket or sheet held up concealing your approach to trap. Be sure to keep this between you and the skunk. Slowly cover trapped skunk with that blanket. Take trap to pond or deep puddle and slowly lower trapped skunk and submerge for more than 5 minutes. Done
Buy once, cry once.

A live trap is the way to go.
Put a large heavy duty garbage bag over it. Preferably black and thick (that's what she said)
When you set the trap tie some rope or cord to the handle and string it through a small hole in the garbage bag.
When the skunk is in it, slowly approach and ease it into the bed of your truck. Don't let the skunk see you and try and move slow.
Worse case scenario it sprays, but not on you.
Lower trap into nearby water source. Drink a beer or 15. Retrieve, dump skunk. Repeat as necessary.

Live trap with marshmallows is the best. When caught I just through a big towel over it and haul them away, either shoot them or just let them go,usually near a swamp where they'll have food and stay. Ya can also drop them off near a A-hole's house and let them have fun.

Had the same problem years ago in MO, stinkers always getting under the house.
Game warden told me to take a sock, put mothballs in it, soak it with ammonia, throw it under house.
Skunks will leave.
House smells like mothballs, better than the d*** skunks.
It worked.

Haven't seen one lately but might try a .308.

How do you trap and dispatch skunks.
Friend has them under the house. Wait until you know they aren't under the house, then block-off all the ways you know they've been using to getting in. What ever you wind up doing though, it would probably be best to make sure you do it before they have litters still nursing under the house.

Old beekeeper trick. Take a raw egg and punch a hole in one end if it. Take three aspirin, powder them up, and mix them into the egg. Make sure it's well blended. Dig a hole the size of the egg and place the egg in it with just the open end showing.
The aspirin acts as an anticoagulant. Skunk wanders off and then falls asleep forever.
The amount of aspirin is enough to kill the skunk, but not enough to bother a dog. Cat's will usually leave it alone.

The trap Jim posted works well as does this one. I trapped a lot of skunks in these traps when I lived in eastern Washington. They don't spray because they cannot see out. Just drop the trap in a barrel of water or pond for 15 minutes. A gob of peanut butter smeared in the back of the trap works fairly well. I used to make a small bag out of a piece of panty hose and put a good dollop of peanut butter in it and hang it in the back of the cage. It would seep a little oil and didn't dry out like it would smeared on the back of wall of the trap. It also positioned the skunk over the treadle that tripped the door. Any meat bait will have you catching all the neighborhood cats before the skunk gets a chance to get to it. I found the most effective way to shoot them and not have them spray was to use a 22 CB Long or LR subsonic solid and hit them in the lungs. They'd flinch at the shot but didn't get excited. In less than a minute they would fall over. Head shots, especially with high velocity and HP ammo tends to put them into involuntary convulsions that activate the muscles which control the scent glands. I used to head shoot them when I caught them in a coyote trap and never had one that didn't spray. An old trapper turned me onto the lung shot with solids and it worked very well.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

30 + years ago, 4 kits took up residence in a plumbing chase in the mobile home we lived in - entered through a hole in the floor we didn't know about. "The Warden" declared that somebody was leaving, her and the kids, the skunks, or me ! Got no help from anyone I called. I woke up in the middle of the night with an answer - make 'em uncomfortable ! We slept one night with all the lights on (skunks being nocturnal) and left for work and school leaving the radio turned up as high as it would go on the nastiest rock station I could find. By the end of the second day, they had evidently gone in search of new housing - in a less "rowdy" neighborhood. Didn't like the neighbors, I suppose !

How do you trap and dispatch skunks.
Friend has them under the house. Can of cat food in a live trap, tie a strong cord to the trap. After capture drag trap out from under house and head into the wind/cross wind away from the house. Approach trap from upwind and put a .22 into it's head. It WILL spray, so stay upwind. Later, dump carcass onto a brush pile and give it a Viking funeral....

when i was 12 caught one in a live trap, able to pick it up in the trap and carry it to my friends house without getting sprayed. we put it in a cage with the bright idea of getting it descented. his older who always f-cked with us came home and threw me on the cage and it sprayed me..... went home threw my clothes in the washing machine and got in the tub. my mom was pissed when she got home, yelling who got sprayed by a skunk. had to get rid of the washing machine.
