If you were buying a post 64 Winchester Model 75 in .375 H&H would you buy a New Haven or BACO (South Carolina) model considering same condition. Why? Made in Portugal stamp is not an option. Thanks.

New Haven Classic. Trigger.

Some will tell you the BACO trigger is just as good. They will be wrong.

The BACO has a better barrel profile and will balance better. And I’ll take a BACO over a late production New Haven any day.

The trigger ... ah yes, the fabled trigger. Your call how important it is to you. The moa is certainly more complicated and *maybe* less reliable; but an moa with an Earnie the gunsmith spring is pretty easy - and damn good.

Another consideration will be availability. If SS is part of your game plan, the New Haven will be much easier to find ...

I'd buy a pre 64, but that's probably just me..

Seems like for 1k more the pre-64 is a solid option. Do they have a 4+1 mag capacity in 375. And...bsa1917hunter....my Africa and Pre-64 30-06 deposit go out next Friday.

No... 3+1..

And I'd take the NH over the BACO every day and five times on Sunday... But that's just me.. smile

I believe he's asking about the pre 64 375 H&H having a 4+1 capacity. If he is, then yes, they do. I have a few laying around here, and they all do. One of the reasons I love building off of an H&H receiver...

I thought I read on here once upon a time that if you change out the spring, you can fit 4 rounds in the magazine of a NH Classic. Is that correct?

If you aren't married to the old trigger, take a look at a BACO Alaskan. A far better feel than the Safari Express (BACO or New Haven) with it's clunky stock and truck axle-like barrel!

A 375 really shouldn't be built like a 458.

Correct. The factory spring has a 'hump' at the rear end.. Change it out for a standard and the extra round can be added..

Any chance I could get a part number, Redneck?

Also, and I apologize if I am getting close to stealing the thread, but how “available” are Classic Safaris in 416?

Agree completely, and this is what I was referring to in my original response. I had overlooked that they (BACO - SC years) were still doing the safari express with its “truck axle-like barrel” shocked

Would a 21 inch barrel Safari Classic (professional cut down) solve the balance issue?

Ask DF

Yes, big difference. Mine was chopped at 21" and flutted.

Barrel shot too well to replace.

I have one of the "truck axle" barrel new haven stainless classic in 375 H&H and it feels fine to me. I shot it maybe 15 times, one day I might be lucky enough to draw a Kodiak bear tag. I will take that (by 24 hourcamp fire standards ungodly, unbalanced, chitty stock, truck axle barrel) model 70 to Kodiak and shoot me a bear. I will then let the experts on 24 hour tell me afterwards how lucky I am I didn't die dragging an inferior rifle to Kodiak..
