They build roads and drill pads over the very fragile tundra. The lakes are just like rock pits as a source for the ice. Summer comes, don't even know they were there. Really something to see. Security up there is something else. You are checked out really well before you get on the plane. Slight screw-up and you are out of there on the next plane.

It's good to hear from you.

I was in Fort Nelson before Christmas and like to froze my ass off. I spent all night shaking in a sleeping bag and my fingers were so cold they would barely move the next morning.

Very true! You litter a bag of chips- your done. My buddy got fired from Conoco for throwing a piece of pepperoni to a fox. The rules are incredibly strict. Every morning I file a work plan and then we discuss the safest way to execute. Even for the simplest things. Its remote and there is Zero tolerance for attitude or bullchit.

At the top of the list is the National Socialist way of running an economy. Yes, it worked well enough to get them in the thick of WWII. However, the idea that all large factory orders had to be run through a hierarchy of central oversight boards made it highly inefficient. Up against a modern capitalist economy, like the US, it was doomed.

The biggest blunder of WWII was the planning and execution of Barbarossa. Hitler asked for a plan for the invasion of Russia. The generals gave it to Hitler. Hitler said he thought the logistics were overblown and sent it back. The generals went ahead and knocked everything down by 2/3. Hitler gave his approval. The plan went ahead and sputtered and fell apart at the gates of Moscow and Stanlingrad. Why? Because Germany went into Russia with only 1/3 of what was needed.

The other big blunder was spending so much valuable resources on extermination. Nevermind the fact that Germany lost so many of its great minds, and also gassed countless doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and engineers needlessly. When Germany should have been trying to defend itself in 44 and 45, it spent its treasure gassing Jews.

I could run down a list all day. About the only thing they really got right were the cool uniforms-- second only to the Italians. Of course, look at the Italians and you'll see what an emphasis on fashion will get you.

I have read that trains carrying people to the concentration camps had a priority over all other rail traffic, even medical trains coming back from the front and munitions trains headed toward the front.

WW2 could have been prevented if England and/or France had intervened when Hitler remilitarized of the Rhineland. Appeasement didn't work then and it won't work with Iran or North Korea.

Every pick up or any vehicle has to carry a "kiddy pool" to put under the engine when you're stopped so they don't drip oily snow on the ground. Don't even think about taking a leak into a snow bank!

In any case, lots of boomer education on display.

Yes the Nazis were on the right track. They’d nationalized their central bank, effectively outlawed usury, denied the franchise to ethnic Jews, and built a strong central government that discouraged several forms of degeneracy.

1939 Germany had the most powerful economy and military in the history of Europe. GDP had doubled in 6 years. Unemployment had gone from over 30% to nearly 0%. The standard of living enjoyed by Germans was the highest in the world at the time.

In expelling Jews, the Nazis were doing what roughly 100 countries had done before them. There is a pattern there, obviously, which does not revolve around the NSDAP.

The Nazis made a number of blunders during WWII. That doesn’t erode the economic and social improvements that accrued to the German people while they were in power.

Solid post.

Thanks.

Its not that bad. The company gives us our own rooms. They feed us huge buffets. The work is easy. We are payed pretty well and I work three weeks on, then three weeks off. Its awesome for planning trips and hunts. Plus the company flys us back and forth.

It’s all good until the ice opens and swallows you....Or, a smart-assed fox rips off one of your sammiches and threatens to eat it in front of your boss unless you give him your chips too. 😂

Be safe out there boys. Dangerous work is why the pay is so good, 😎

Who thinks Kingston's a POS?

Remsen of course...Duh!

Kingston ain’t white...I have it on good insider information he’s actually something else. 😎

The truth is that there's only one person on this board I don't like, and it ain't Kingston. It's the douchebag who poaches deer and brags about hunting stray milk cows...

Canaduh?

No offense intended to my friends to the south.

Alaska, westward ho over the virginal tundra from points west of Prudhoe into the great petroleum frontier. The rest is classified j but we don't need no stinking electric cars. LOL And no, I can not see Russia from the porch.

Boomer! I'm with ASRC in Alpine right now. I bet we are real close if your west of Prudhoe. Im shuffling Vac trucks and hauling nitrogen. Give me a shout!

Hey neighbor. Heck you are right uptown! Keep myself out of trouble I'll have to stay vague, but I am remote lol. I will pm you sometime. Have to hook up for steaks lol.

Thanks guys, Travis' joojoo ice road thread is a great relief tonight. Just starting to get some connectivity. Have managed just fine without news but missed the 'Fire.

What we're doing is harvesting ice by grinding off layers from the edges, the area that is grounded, frozen to the bottom, and water from the lakes deeper unfrozen area and building roads withtthat material. There's other ice road types... The goal is to move stuff in and out and leave it undisturbed next summer. There is more to it but that's it for now.
