Friend of mine is talking about building a 28 nosler. I never gave one much thought until we talked about one a few days ago. Anyone here ever dealt with one?

I shot out a 308 Norma, considered it. Went 264 WM, may go 28 when this one is toast.

Gots one..........I like it...............Right up there into 7 RUM and STW and 7mm Wby mag territory. If your friend is looking for an outstanding long range round in 7mm, then the 28 Nosler is an outstanding choice for build.

Have a friend who is interested in buying mine which is more of a hunting rifle after which I will buy a long ranged precision/hunting rifle in the same cartridge.....

Cannot see how he could go wrong with a 28 Nosler.

I built one early when it was announced with a 700 ss ultramag action and an 8 twist rock rem mag sporter. It shot ok but not great. Best was 3/4 moa. However, the cartridge fit the action great, fed and functioned well, and got great speed.

I ended up trading the one I built to a friend for his Christensen ELR also in 28 nosler. He liked my custom because it had a 24" mag sporter and handled like a 700 bdl 7 mag. The elr is not too heavy but it's a big gun.

I haven't done a lot of load development with the elr but the load he gave me was RL33 with 180 Eldm's. It clocks 3200 fps and has shot multiple 1/4 moa groups but I think its fouling pretty fast and the groups start to go after not too many rounds. Clean it with some eliminator and its shooting great again.

I sold my home and moved into one of my rentals while I built a new house right after I got the elr. My loading pretty much stopped for a while so I never got to really work with it. As soon as spring gets here I'll try some retumbo and h1000.

I really like the 28. 180 elds at 3200 are a laser beam. Its probably one of my favorite of all new cartridge designs to come out in the last 20 years.

I'd like to get something a little smaller than the elr for hunting. It's a great rifle for what it is but that 26" barrel plus the slayer break just doesn't handle the way I want. I had the blueprint pretty close on my first one. Ryan Pierce told me next time go with a 24" fluted brux #5. The rifle I carry the most has a fluted brux 4 so maybe I'll take Ryan's advice on the next one. A 5 sounds a little front heavy to me but Ryan knows 28s.

It's a good long range 7mm but it's not one to sit at the bench and bang away with barrel life is not good for that unless you dont mind putting on barrels.

...............Yep! Not a consistent bench round for sure. Should get a good solid 1,000 rounds or better from a barrel. More than likely better than 1000.

An ok round for occasional range sessions. 100 rounds a year? Maybe less, maybe a little more.

There are reports of guys getting in excess of 1000 rounds from their 6.5/300 Wbys with still good accuracy. That round would surely create more barrel wear than would a 28 Nosler.

I have a 7mm ultra mag, I like it. Recoil isn’t bad, it’s a Sendero rifle. I have a 26 Nosler, built out of a seven mag Sendero rifle. I like it a lot also. A 28 Nosler should be a fun cartridge to hunt with.

Was talking to Ryan Pierce about a 28 Nosler, and while he says it's a very good chambering, he steered me towards a 30-28 Nosler instead. Lower pressures and easier on the throat. I'm picking mine up from him in a couple of weeks.

The 28 Nosler is an awesome long range cartridge. Low recoil and hits like a hammer.

Typical group? Dayum! I'd like to see your bench/rest set-up when you have a moment.
