I am in the market for a new 3-point tiller. I think I need a 6’ model. What brands do I need to look into or avoid? Thanks

How wide is your tractor at the rear wheels?

You want to be able to till that wide.

How many HP does it have?


Avoid chain driven tillers. Go for gear driven tillers with a slip clutch, and not shear bolts.

A lot depends on what you're going to do with it. I bought one from TSC years ago, and have only used it till up the garden, after the garden was plowed with a bigger tractor. It has never given one bit of trouble. If I was going to be doing several acres worth of tilling, then I'd go heavy duty.

Like Barry said, measure your tractor wheels before you buy.

I bought a Massey Ferguson 1635. It is a 36 hp and the rear wheel width is 64”. I will only be tilling some small gardens with it.

Not that I know that much, but I thought I add that the 1635 has 27.1 hp (gear) or 25.8 hp (hydro) at the PTO (per TractorData.com). Thought it might be useful to the discussion.

I know much less. Does this mean my tractor can handle a six foot tiller?

I used a 4 foot tiller behind a JD sub-compact 2210, listed as having 23 HP. Needed to be run in 4wd and needed the frontend loader on to counteract the weight of the tiller. Granted, this 2210 is pretty much just an oversized lawn tractor in my opinion, and your tractor is larger, so you shouldn't have problems handling a 6 foot tiller.

I'm running this tiller behind my 30 HP 2007 Nortrac (Jinma) tractor. The tractor has plenty of power for it, and the tiller has been trouble free for 12 years now.

In my research I came across Titan brand tillers. One site has the 6’ model on sale for 1755.00 plus free shipping. That’s almost 200.00 off. Anyone out there have any experience with this brand?

I've got a couple of Titan attachments. But not a tiller.

They shipped one without the specialized hookup hardware that was supposed to be included. I couldn't use it.

I notified them, and that started a 2 week phone/e-mail fight with them to just get the parts I was supposed to get in the first place. Their management people absolutely do not care about the customer. Not a whit.

Had to threaten a lawsuit to get $30 worth of parts they said came with the attachment.

After looking some more, it may not be the same company.

Google “Everything Attachments.” They are a company out of North Carolina that has good stuff, free shipping, and good service. They should be able to help you pair a tiller to your tractor.

The best deal I found happened to be only 25 miles away. Farm equipment store made me a great deal on a 72” Farm-Maxx. If it ever stops raining I will try it out. At this rate, that’s gonna be around mid-August. Thanks for all the information.

I have seen tillers that are offset to one side of the centerline of the tractor. This way you don’t have to use a tiller as wide as the tractor (at the rear tires). I don’t know if they are still being made, but might be able to find a good used one.
