All:

I am currently buying a ranch with some property. The current owner has a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Reg Cab 4x4 in the garage. 111K miles. 5 speed manual. It has some nice oversized tires on it. He takes care of his equipment based on everything else at the place. He is offering it to me for $8K. The Kelly Blue Book has the price way South of $8K. But after looking on Autotrader, any 2002 Tacoma 4x4 is $12K-15K and has an average of 150K+ miles on it. Am I missing something here?

Thanks...

Assuming there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s a deal.
Those things are like gold around here.
I have an 01, my son has an 02, and my father has a 98. They just never tear up.

Assuming you didn't overpay on the ranch might as well buy it.

It’ll sell for more than that in just a few minutes if you later decide you don’t want it.
If it is a 4 cylinder, don’t expect it to have much power.

I'm no expert on the pricing of these things but I can say they are excellent trucks. My Tacoma is a 2002. I bought it brand new that year and still has only 70,000 miles on it. After all these years it still runs great.

Just one word of warning. Due to a law suit some one filed they had to replace the whole under carrage/frame because it was not properly coated with a rust resistant chemical. All Tacomas made around that year were recalled. All labor and parts were free of charge. So ask the seller if this has been done otherwise you might have the bottom of the truck rot out.

A buddy has an 03 and it has 160K on it. Still runs and looks great, very solid. I'd give him 8K for his, if he was selling it.

Seems like good deal.

If the frame is in good shape by it, offer him 7500. They are great little trucks for running around in, perfect for a ranch in the woods, hunting rig. I had a 94 with a four banger in it,you couldn’t stop that damn truck in the woods. I have an 05 now that I bought off my body when He retired,I have177k on it and she purrs like a kitten. I think you would have a blast in that thing.

I have a 2000 Tacoma TRD with the 3.4 and manual 5 speed. It has 202,000 miles now and runs great. It still has the original clutch. If it isn’t all rusted out, 8k for a 02 Tacoma with 111,000 miles isn’t a bad deal. you can’t buy an ATV for that these days.

I’d buy it probably . They make a decent ranch rig as far as hauling a light load or tools from point a to point b.

I'd not take a pass on it, no way.

I have an '01 with the 4cyl. and 5 speed. Purchased in 2010 for $10K with 110K miles on it. Now has over 220K. Not really any issues with it other than maintenance type stuff.

Not sure about how much "power" you will need, but I've used the crap out of mine. Here's a pic of mine on the road when I retired and packed up a bunch of stuff to haul from WA to CA down the 395. Just getting out of where I lived I had 8 miles or so of 9% grade, then there are the "hills" on the way south from there. The truck was loaded with +/- 800 lbs of household and hunting/camping gear and guns including the 110 lb boat up top. The 5'x8' cargo trailer had close to another 800 lbs of ammo, reloading equipment, garden carts, and accumulated "stuff" in it and pulled just fine with some downshifting of course. Oh, I put a set of air bags on the rear end to take some of the weight off the factory springs as I went through that routine on a slightly lighter basis spring and fall every year for 7 years.

If I had the cash and lived near you I'd be buying it tonight, whatever motor it has in it.

My 87 year old father has 03 extended cab 4x4, automatic. 60K miles. A guy followed him home one day last year and tried to buy it, then showed up again 3 months later and asked if he'd changed his mind.

I say jump on that deal.

Yes buy it - the muzzies over in the desert seem to run theirs until a Hellfire or a Sidewinder cancels the warranty.
