The whole country pulled together in WW2 and did whatever was necessary to win the war. Political interests were put aside, and people worked together. I cannot seeing that ever happening again.

My grandma operated a crane at a shipyard during the war. She could cuss a blue streak too.

The old guy I leased from in Coleman County had asthma, he worked at the Boeing plant in Fort Worth. He was one of the few young men there. He said the women kept him worn down!!!!

OTOH ...... One should remember that while all these women joined the war effort work force, many stayed in the workforce after the war and thus were the spearhead of the liberal feminist movement.

One way to find out. Would they do it without pay?

Would the soldiers fight without pay? Well I suppose the drafted ones would have had to somehow....

My great aunt worked in a factory in central Ohio building bombers I believe. Her job was to run and install the wiring harnesses.

I still have her toolbox from when she worked as a "Rosie-the-Riveter".

Just explained this to my son and even he thought that was pretty cool.

My grandmother Rain worked in one of the plants in Longbeach, California. There is a picture in the national archives of her holding up a manifold and riveting it. She weighed 140lbs and was strong. Most people who I visited when I went out to South Dakota said that she was as strong as a man. This is in Deull County where the average man who is farming, threshing and shovelling grain is pretty freaking strong. She was abandoned by her father who suffered during WWI and pretty much worked as a farm hand from when she was 14 on up. She always had very strong hands.

I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old on a trip through Valentine, Nebraska when she was driving her "souped" up Dodge Duster that the deputy pulled her over for driving about 70mph through a 45 mph speed trap. He walked up to us and asked her if she knew she was breaking the law. She called him some extremely colourful names and dang it if he got too close to her and she grabbed him by the collar and peeled on out of there cussing and swearing while she was dragging him with one hand and driving with the other. The next time driving back through, he just waved her on. Women of that generation were mentally constructed in a different way than most. It was a fool thing to mess with her.

No matter either way, but it is food for thought.

Should women be allowed to work,in your opinion? If so, should they pay taxes like men?
