Um, sounds bad.....

Coronavirus Lockdown – China Ramps Up Quarantine

Despite all attempts at containment, the Coronavirus is spreading.

Coronavirus Lockdown – China Ramps Up Quarantine

The Coronavirus has breached containment in Wuhan. As news filters out that many major cities in China are moving to quarantine and lockdown, the nation’s largest economic center and trade city, Shanghai, has also fallen to the pandemic and, as reported by the Chinese media,* has been placed on ”closed city” status.
At a press conference aimed at disease prevention, the Shanghai municipal government announced that a large number of the city’s 13,000 neighborhoods have been ordered to adopt “closed management” controls. This involves controlling the number of exits and entrances into the estates, security guards** to measure the temperature of those coming and going and keeping logs of all citizens. Mandatory isolation is to last for 14 days.
The story adds that “Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing” have all been placed under strict quarantine control, as the Coronavirus has spread beyond attempted containment in the Hubei region.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the cases we’re seeing in China may just be a small part of the global picture. He tweeted earlier this week:

“There have been some concerning instances of onward #2019nCoV spread from people with no travel history to [China].
The detection of a small number of cases may indicate more widespread transmission in other countries; in short, we may only be seeing the tip of the iceberg.”

Infection Rate
According to credible sources, the number of infections in China may be anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000, and one professor from Imperial College London believes that the numbers could reach a peak of 50,000 new infections per day. That the local authorities across China may be covering up or downplaying the severity in their own regions is likely, signifying that cases of the infection are being vastly under-reported.

Infections in China are not expected to top out until mid-March, according to several sources. The expansion outside of China will lag by one to two months and perhaps longer. What’s happening in China right now may spread to Singapore, Thailand, Japan, or Hong Kong in the March-April time frame. How long before it spreads to India, Africa, Mexico, Western Europe, and more?

If China – with its draconian, military police state measures – is overwhelmed, consider what would happen in a free city like Los Angeles or New York.

Emergency Measures

In a shocking emergency order, China’s capital city of Beijing is now under pandemic lockdown or quarantine order, as reported on the Chinese-language Liberty Times Net (translated from Chinese):

“…today (Feb. 10) the Beijing authorities also issued a ‘epidemic prevention and control notice strict residential closed management,’ declaring that Beijing has also entered a ‘closed city’ state.

According to the notice, Beijing further restricted ‘community closure management,’ foreign vehicles and personnel are not allowed to enter, arriving in Beijing must also report health status, complete the registration of personal information.
Those who refuse to accept medical observation, home observation and other preventive measures, which constitute violations of public security management, shall be severely punished by the public security organs in accordance with the law.”

An estimated 80 Chinese cities are now under these quarantine restrictions, impacting hundreds of millions of people, exceeding the entire population of the United States.

Losing Control?

Beijing’s population is currently around 20 million people. The Chinese capital is one of the 11 key cities that Chinese leaders demanded be protected, even if at the expense of other cities and regions. The fact that Beijing has had to resort to quarantine measures suggests the government has failed in its earlier efforts at limiting the spread of the virus.

Several scientists suggest the Coronavirus outbreak may be unstoppable, including Nancy Messonnier, who works for the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) and previously as an epidemic intelligence service officer. She was recently quoted in Bloomberg News, stating, “We are preparing as if this were the next pandemic” and reiterating that it “would be impossible” to fully contain the virus and prevent the outbreak from spreading. “Our goal is to slow this thing down.”

Birdwatcher has posted this earlier but it doesn’t hurt to read it again.

One wonders where this thing will lead to. Sounds like it would be absolutely devastating if it were to hit certain lesser developed, 3rd world countries who have no means whatsoever to contain it, e.g., Sub Saharan Africa.

How many prescription drugs are made in China? How long before your neighborhood CVS starts running out.
Printer ink cartridges? How long before we are hand writing everything?
Etc, etc, etc

Imagine a corporate oligarchy so effective, so advanced and fine tuned that its citizens still call it a democracy.

The problem remains that we simply do not know the severity of the viral disease. This thing might be no worse than catching a cold, a few days and most people are over it..

Or it may kill half the world's population. We do not know, and the only ones who might have accurate information are lying about it (the Chinese Communist Party and the WHO, for starters).

I doubt that the CDC is lying about the severity.

Health care in North Korea is probably no better than the poorest African nations.... it would not surprise me to see China go all medieval on keeping North Koreans from "escaping" into China....

Just saw this

https://www.foxnews.com/health/north-korea-clearly-lying-coronavirus-cases-expert

".… Nagi Shafik, former project manager for WHO in Pyongyang, told the South China Morning Post that the country would be ill-equipped to deal with such an outbreak, and would likely lack proper safety gear and medical equipment.

SOME CORONAVIRUS TESTING KITS ARE DEFECTIVE, CDC SAYS

“I presume there are more items needed, especially when it comes to cleaning and sterilization,” he told SCMP.com. “May I remind as well that many women and children suffer from malnutrition; these are factors that affect the immunity system and render humans more susceptible to infection.”
Kazianis also said that the country’s fragile health care system would be overwhelmed if the outbreak swept through the nation, and that “millions of everyday citizens would be essentially left to die.”

“North Korea’s health care system is devoid of the most basic treatments for any sort of medical problem,” he said. “Things like antibiotics, any sort of preventative care are unheard of in the countryside or rural areas and only reserved for the party elite in Pyongyang.”

So far, North Korea has banned all tourists and cut off transportation links with China in an effort to stave off the illness. It’s also enacted a 30-day quarantine period and said “all the institutions and fields of the state and foreigners staying in the DPRK should obey it unconditionally.”

But cutting the country off from the rest of the world is dangerous, as is withholding the truth about the virus in order to preserve Kim’s reputation, Kazianis said.
“The real danger is if the situation were to spiral out of control and some sort of government collapse occurred,” he said. “While I would say the chances are remote, this is the real danger that we must worry about when it comes to North Korea. If the Kim regime did collapse, from coronavirus or something else, who controls their nuclear weapons? What about their chemical or biological weapons? Who feeds the 25 million North Koreans?”

“North Korea will always be a threat, and if the state collapsed we would be dealing with a crisis of epic proportions not seen since WW2,” Kazianis said. “And that is terrifying.”

This is not a current article but it could be applicable in this situation: “a Pestilence.”

https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-too...-revelation-the-pale-horse-of-pestilence

ETA: its irrefutably a pestilence. The degree to which it — the coronavirus — is is yet to be determined.

The Chinese government is probably also using this as an excuse to make Christians, Muslims and other “undesirables” disappear.

I wouldn’t wish pestilence on any one or any country. Not saying that you are. The further it spreads the closer it comes to us.

We are joined at the hip with the world when one considers air and sea travel.
