Is it just me, is is the 17HMR slowly going the way of the 17 Mach2? I see less and less ammo for it offered online and in my local gun stores all the time.
I love shooting my HMR's, so long as it's not a windy day, but it seems like there is less and less love for it all the time.
Anyone else seeing this trend?
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

the problem for me was cost of the ammo. I can just about shoot 223 for the cost of it. heck I can spend an extra 4 bucks a box and shoot 357 mag from my marlin 1894. I think the ammo is overpriced. I really do love the HMR but for me its kinda a betweener that doesn't get shot all that much. but man it sure is accurate.

Well that's a good question. Maybe also post it in the gunwriter's forum for an industry opinion?

The whole point of the Hummer is near-CF performance with readonably-priced factory ammo. Might it just be that pdog and ground squirrel hunters are getting their supply in now to avoid the spring rush? Perhaps some loads haven't been selling all that well and some contraction of the product line is in order.
Since I don't own one, I don't look for ammo, but rifle selection seems really good.
What fresh Hell is this?

Prairie dog shooters love 'em. Count me in on to that bunch. I've had mine since 2002. It's a helluva shooter for a $230 rifle (early Marlin 17V). It will shoot with nearly any good centerfire, too. I had to tinker with the bedding, but with good ammo lots, it averages less than an inch at 100 yards.
I will concede it's a little light for coons, but it will kill them, and it has killed groundhogs for me, too, but it really shines on crows and prairie dogs, and similar critters. They'll SHOOT, and you don't have to reload them.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

I do my part and shoot ~ 1,000 rounds per year. Mostly at Rock Chucks and Jack Rabbits. Love the 17HMR.

Lots of ammo in my part of the country!!! I was at Cabelas in Gonzales, LA last weekend. They had many varieties and brands of .17 HMR ammo and lots of it. I had what I needed already, but could have picked up all I wanted. DF

They still make ammo for the 22WRF and 17M2 now and then. And the 17HMR is far more popular than either of those. I don't think it's going out of style yet.
But I got a 22 Mag instead... because bigger tougher bullets. Although it doesn't have the point and shoot range of a 17HMR, I'm more comfortable with it for use on bigger varmints and small predators.

In my area I would say it’s holding ground and gaining a little while it’s at it. 17hmr accounts for 1/2 our rimfire sales of rifles. It also accounts for second most rimfire ammo sold. 22LR wins on ammo. I find the price reasonable with average being about $12 a box and often bricks at around the $100-120 mark.

The 17HMR outsells the 22 mag by about 2 to 1 in terms of ammo sales.
It has for the last 15 years.
It is the reason why Tikka STILL does not even chamber the T1X for the .22 magnum yet.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Pretty much the same for every other rimfire load since Trump was elected. The hoarding stopped. Hadn't heard about the Norma 17HMR ammo.. I wonder who is loading that for them?
