For some reason or another, I am thinking about getting a Henry lever action 22 rifle. I have no need for one. I don't even know that I'll end up getting one. But, the thought just won't go away.

I don't want a fancy one, more specifically I'm looking at the Small Game Carbine version. It has peep sights, and I'm thinking I'd rather have those. So............does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with Henry 22's?

If so, please tell me.

I bought a plain-Jane Henry .22 lever several years ago simply because I liked its looks. To my surprise, it was more accurate and far smoother than my Marlin 39, so I sold the Marlin and kept the Henry. People constantly bash Henrys but, truth be told, I suspect that many of the haters have never handled or fired one. In addition, Henrys lack the "cool" factor of Model 39's.

If you want a trim little .22 that shoots great, Henry is a great choice.

I have the standard version, my brother has the Golden Boy. Both have very slick actions and are dang accurate with the iron sights.

I own Winchester, Marlin and Henry as well as have owned the Browning. For the money, the Henry is hard to beat. Henry is the only one I have multiples of. Nothing wrong with the others, other than price for the older one's I like, but to say one is truly better than another is splitting hairs. They are all good, and you can never have enough rimfires.

Picked up the base model Henry .22 lever gun ( model H001 ), back in Oct. 2018. Was on sale at a local place. Fondled it, shouldered it and bought it on the spot. I like it a lot and would recommend it as very nice for the price. The thing really shoots; currently has an el-cheapo red dot on a pic rail just for grins. While we're on the topic of Henry .22 levers, what's a nice aperture sight for one? Thinking about that for the future.

I bought one from Buds a few months back. Haven’t done an accuracy test, but got a squirrel first day with it. Been ringing steel off my deck with it. No issues.

I don’t like the cast receiver and the factory irons I also dislike the plastic mag tube coupler. Fix that and it would be a marlin or 94/22. Equal

There is nothing at all wrong with the cast ZAMAK receiver. It will hold up to quite a bit of use/misuse.

Sure I bet it does. But it will not take bluing. Don’t they paint those? I wouldn’t like how they would look with scratches

WTF do you think the Ruger 10-22 and Marlin 60 receivers are made of ? And there ain't no plastic "mag tube coupler" on a Henry either.

Henry is hard to beat for the money. Mine runs smoother then 39 Marlin I have and the trigger is better then my Browning.

not trying to bash them. I realize they are trying to make inexpensive lever guns. winchester pretty much has bailed on making their legendary designs in numbers and prices we can afford anymore. Yeah I know the 10/22's and model 60's are no different with their cast recievers, both of which I have multiples. For me I just look at lever actions as tradition and pride. I would rather pay the money for an old school rifle like a 9422 or a 39a. it would be cool if henry made a steel version. I would buy one if they did. The brass is too much bling for me. the larger guns like the 30-30's etc. They made way too many of those not to just get a 70's or 80's JM gun for the same or maybe even a little less money. those are the reasons I haven't bought a henry.

In case everyone forgot (or is trying to forget) Mossberg is making a .22 levergun, I think it's called the 464, and I've heard positive things about their function. I think the Henry is a better-looking rig (though not as nice as a 94/22 or BL-22). Doesn't matter because I'm not a rimfire levergun kinda guy, for me, it's boltguns or autos, period.

Cast receiver doesn't bother me in the least. Cheap iron sights, that has been the norm for at least 50 years. But a plastic magazine band, that's just not cool.

Remington 66's seem to last ok.
I have read Henry now uses metal barrel bands but have not handled one to be sure
