Hello All

I asked my son if he would like to do a fishing trip somewhere. He said he would love to go back to Alaska. Made me happy. The last time we were there (his first) it was just a sight seeing trip with the whole family. I was thinking of something on the ocean. My brother did a trip 25 years ago at Sitka and had a good time. I was thinking salmon and halibut, but rock fish would be good too.

Any advise on good guides would be appreciated.

I fished with Calvin last year.
Top notch guide and a better person.

Heard great reports about Calvin, but logistically Millers Landing is a snap.

Have a look at the Orca Adventure Lodge in Cordova. Great rooms, great food, and can arrange any kind of fishing that suits you, right out the front door.
If you go when the pinks are in, your boy can catch as many as he can stand right from the beach in front of the place.

Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years.
It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone.....
Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.

Fly in to Homer and take the ferry ride to Kodiak. Its a really cool ride. Kodiak offers alot of fishing opportunities, also its Kodiak! Rent a cheap car and take it both directions as far as you can. Bring a trout rod and drive down to Pasagshak. It will be a blast.

You might consider https://www.naknekrivercamp.com .

They don't offer open water fishing which you insinuated you might be looking for but their location puts you right in Katmai Park. The bears keep it interesting there...

Don't call a guy with a 601 area code man. He will leave Alaska in the fall and the money he has earned along with him. Call an Alaskan if you want a guide and keep the cash in our economy. He may be a great guide but with an out of state area code?

Thanks for your concern. He resides here year round. He does more "alaskan" stuff than 99% of the people that also live in Alaska year round.
