For a lightweight spinning reel try the Pflueger Arbor. I have several of the smallest version, the 7430X. . The large diameter spool will give you longer casts.

Pflueger President spinning reels are nice for the money. I also have President XT, Supreme and Supreme XT. I like my Daiwa BG better than any of the Pfluegers.

My Daiwa BGs continue to impress me. I find it fascinating that that level of quality can be had for such a low price point.

My spinning reels are Shimano Nascis and an older Stradic FJ that I’ve used for years. There’s a lot of great stuff out there...I’ve fished Shimanos for 25 years.

I just picked up two Shimano Sedonas, size 30. Smooth as silk. $60 each on Ebay. Its amazing watching the progress on spinning reels over the last decade. They just keep on getting smoother with not much of a price increase.

In the last month I have purchased a Flueger supreme, a Flueger President XT, a Shimano Sedona, and a Shimano Sahara.

They typically are rated to spool from 140 yds of six pound mono, to a rating of 180 yds of 8# or 10# depending on the weight pole I am equipping. Most of the smaller reels are spooled with 8# power Pro braid, and I have spare sppols for some with 30# Power Pro braid. The heavier poles with the biggest reels for trolling a dypsey diver or heavy planer are full of 20# Fire Line.

The Flueger President XT is an $80 reel. My new one is the XP35X and is rated for 12 lb of drag and holds 185 yds of 8# mono, but is filled with 20# fireline for heavy trolling loads.

The Flueger Supreme is the SUPSP30X and is a $100 reel. This one is rated at 10 lb of drag and holds 145 yds of 6# mono. It is filled with 8# Power Pro and is mounted on a 7 foot medium lite graphite Cherrywood pole for casting #3 to #5 Mepps spinners, and trolling spinners or small Rapalas behind the boat for trout.

It is quickly becoming my favorite outfit.

I have no complaints with the new or old Shimano Sedonas I own. A couple are close to ten years old. They have mostly been used for light trolling duties for kokanee or rainbow trout. The Sedona is priced just a bit less than the Flueger President.

Bass Pro dot com is not a bad place to reel shop, even if you do not purchase from Johny Morris. The reel specifications are well laid out and easy to read.
