the last lynching was about 40 years ago. I'm glad we got this law passed so we could put an end to it.

Is there a difference between a lynching and a hanging? Can white people lynch a white person or are racial differences necessary? I dont think we should have any defined 'hate' crimes, if you murder someone, you should be charged with murder, irregardless of the motivation...

Well heck I thought all of the people lynched hated getting lynched. I guess it good they made a 'Hate Crime'.

The last time anyone was lynched was the 1970s, and both participants were tried and executed, all without anyone ever hearing of such a thing as a hate crime, or a Federal Lynching charge. It would appear, therefore, that the law was already more than adequate for dealing with lynching.

You are most welcome. My GG grandfather was sheriff here in 1857-58. Lost a prisoner they were trying to transfer to a more secure jail next county over (Fayette co.). Prisoner was a notorious bad guy (and white) wanted for all manner of heinous crimes over in the "redlands” of east Texas and Louisiana, name of Thomas Middleton. My grandpaw resigned his office as a result.

The deed occurred somewhere up top of the hill east of Bastrop not far from entrance of Bastrop State Park. There are still some sizable post oak trees in that vicinity, so that tree could still exist.
