Anyone have a Remington 11-87 20 gauge drilled and tapped?
I’ve seen on line some say the front of the receiver on the 20 gauge is to thin to drill and tap. Others say it’s perfectly fine to drill and tap.
Anyone have one done? How did it turn out?

I’ve had mine done for two years and had no issue. My smith said it was fine

NMS,
Did you get a two screw base or a four screw base?

If I do my 870 20 (if), it’ll be a 6-hole base, to mitigate for the receiver thickness and turkey load recoil.

It’s a 4 hole. Just got my scope mounted and counted holes

I've got 870s and an 11-87 20ga drilled and tapped with no issues. They are the 2 hole variety for the Burris 336 FF3 mount.

FWIW I did a couple of 870s. Used the base for a 742 and used three of the four positions. These were slug guns (12 ga). No issues. One is still going, base solid (my buddy bought it back in the 90's and ran it up to a couple yrs ago). Using Express receivers got me a bit more thread, as they only had a flat on top, no recess. Guys back in the slug gun days looked for the Sportsman Auto. A no frills 1100 with no flat on receiver top (round, same for the pump).

For turkey I'd proly go w a barrel mount for reflex or mini dot.
Somebody surely makes a weaver to rib mount.

It's no problem. One of my buds did one for another friend.

I used a Remington pattern base, if I sell and remove base hopefully it will make it easier on the next owner..
The first one I did I cut the weaver base in half. Only 2 screws hold that one on and have had zero issues.
The second one I did all 4 and yes the front 2 are in thin metal but tightened down with no issues.
Note: If going with a red dot get a picatinny rail. Most red dots will have a lug.

Are you part of the problem or part of the solution?

I drilled and tapped my 11-87 20 myself. Two holes for a Burris 336 FF3 mount, I have a Vortex 3MOA on it. No problems at all.

I've had good luck with the aimtech saddle mount on my 12 gauge for about 8 years and I just put one on my 20 gauge. They are cheap and easy plus you can still use your front bead if your battery dies. 12 is a 870 and 20 is a 1187
