thank you. I will probably take it up to Williams Gunsite, fortunate enough to be within driving distance. still baffled as to how this happened. Also, close up you get a much better look, that may need to be remediated.

It is probably with all of those missing front hoods I'm sure an inside joke there, but that particular part is still there and it's not for sale...LOL

Assuming this is a Marlin? I've got some original Marlin rear sights. PM me if you are interested.

I picked up a complete rear sight on eBay a while back for $35. Used, but in pristine condition.
Replaced a peep setup that was on a 39a I bought here that had the rear sight removed and plugged.

Probably broke one of the holes out that the pegs on the spring fit into on the rear blade. Then it falls off and the elevator goes with it. They’re a cast part cast out of some type of pot metal type substance and pretty easily broken. I replaced at least 3 a week for a lot of years.
An aperture rear will keep it from ever happening again and still keep the trim lines of your rifle.

Appreciate the comments. This is an early 70's version, 30-30, excellent condition. Frankly, I hate the buckhorn style rear site, difficult for me to place the bead. I did get used to it, but still have not taken a deer with it. I discovered the missing part when taking it from the case after huntng last Christmas Day.
Does anyone know if that site assembly would have been made by Marbles? Lyman? Thanks.

It would have been a Marlin factory part. If they were subbed out whoever made them wasn’t marketing them under any other label. Quite frankly they are junk compared to the old Lyman offerings. These are what you’re missing. Maybe look in the end of your case if you say it was missing when you pulled it out, they’ve been known to pop off if they get a little twisted or tweaked. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/407670Phttps://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/407640A

P.S. Any thoughts, suggestions regarding the surface corrosion in the close up?

I've cleaned up minor surface rust with 0000 steel wool saturated with gun oil. Obviously is not gonna make it like new, but it helps.

P.S. Any thoughts, suggestions regarding the surface corrosion in the close up? Take a brass case, 30-30 or 35 Rem will do, cut off at the shoulder, flatten the 'mouth' with a hammer, contour the end to closely match the barrel contour, sharpen the edge with a fine file, use that tool to scrap the rough spot.................. YES, it works! Post pics after you try it....

I did Marrlin warranty for years. The rear sight leaf comes in different heights. GPC might have the proper height leaf and elevator. Good luck with it!

Since remington bought out marlin in north haven years ago , i'm not sure. You can ask them. You need rear sight leaf and rear sight elevator. Mention caliber and model number.
