Took my two boys age 9 and 7 out squirrel hunting Wednesday. We saw a very nice gobbler, several deer, and even more squirrels. I took one young fox squirrel and two young greys with my 541-T, my 9 yr old took one young grey with his 581-S and my 7 yr old took two young greys with his 870 youth in 20ga. We had several misses and picked our share of ticks, but we all had a good time. Made it back to the truck just before the rain hit.

Good for you and the boys! That's a good time. I haven't gone yet this year, but thought really hard about it this evening. It rained for about two hours. Afterward the wind and temperature and humidity dropped. I watched six feeding in a hickory tree behind the house. Looked like they were eating buds from the very end of the limbs.

These were eating the tops of the wheat we put in our food plots. When we first walked up to the plot, I could count five squirrels, after the first shot, close to a dozen were barking at us. We killed 4 of the greys without even taking a step in about 2 minutes. It was fast and furious.

Ya gotta love it when they get all bunched up on a food source. When my son was really young and learning to hunt we found a huge old hickory tree that had so many squirrels working in it that we stood in one spot about 20 yards away and he killed four with his single shot .20 gauge as fast as he could shoot and reload. Squirrels were bouncing everywhere in the limbs of that tree. We marked the downed squirrels and let them lay and just sat down and waited. In 20 minutes he killed the last two to fill his limit out of the same tree. Good times...
