This fishery we put pens out, hang 700 kelp per permit in the pens. Then we seine up the herring and put them in the pens to spawn. The idea is the get kelp with a thick layer of roe on them. It’s a Japanese wedding deal. Only place in the world that will pay for it.

I got a permit to do it this spring, so it’s new to me.

Weddings might just be scaled back enough to put the squeeze on your demand. We are growing a "new" fish specifically for the Chinese banquet market, and the first went off to the distributor in February. To say it was a dud is an understatement. There are no banquets.

My 91 year old father loves going to the Indian casinos, gets a $15 credit on Mondays, thinks it's the best thing ever.

Just got off the phone with him, he was planning on going again. I advised him that maybe he should rethink that and give it a couple weeks to see how this pans out, since the rest of the country is shutting down.
