I'd like to stay around 200 bucks for a pair.
New Mexico hunting mostly, walking in sage brush, rocks, and possibly climbing rock if I draw Ibex.
Temps arent too cold, so around 600 gram insulation. If it gets real cold, I have that covered, or could add chemical insole heaters.
Hike height possible, but normal 8-10 inch height ok.
I'm liking the Rocky Bearclaw 600 boots.
I also looked at UA boots.

Help me pick a great boot in my budget, and to fit my hunts.

Meindl ultra light hunters. Most comfortable boot made in my opinion.

If you’re patient you could probably watch for sales and catch a more expensive boot on sale. With that said, cost doesn’t determine comfort or quality necessarily. I just recently invested in a quality pair of hunting/hiking boots and I can honestly say that actually trying on as many pairs you can is the best way to approach this. I couldn’t believe the difference I felt between several boots and I let my feet tell me what boots felt the best. I looked at and tried on several Crispi boots that I really thought I liked until I got to wear them and they didn’t feel right ... and I ended up with Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400s. Also, if you’re going to be walking and moving around a lot while hunting in them I would think 200-400gr max for the insulation.

I’d say at your price range though the Danner Pronghorn boots would be very hard to beat. I highly suggest though that price not being your #1 priority and putting comfort before price.

I think they are around $220 at Cabelas but the newest version of the uninsulated Danner Pronghorn sounds like just what you're looking for. I haven't used insulated boots in 20 years. Even hunting Colorado in a foot of snow and temps in the teens 2 years ago. A good pair of wool socks keeps my feet plenty warm. My feet sweat in insulated boots and wet feet end up colder even with the insulation. They make an insulated version too.

Will cost you more than $200 but Limmers are the last hunting boot you will ever buy. Been wearing mine for 12 years now and I guide big game hunters for 3 solid months every year.

Schnees has their EVO boots on sale. They are comfortable, waterproof and of superb quality. I highly recommend.

I'm kinda liking these.
They have 600 gram insulation.
There are other models, but seem to have no insulation.

I like the old school sewn on Norwegian or Good Year welts. These Alico's from Sierra Trading Post are a great buy. https://www.sierra.com/alico~b~1143/
I would get the Summit or Tahoe unless you are packing out elk or have heavy loads. Down side- No Gore Tex, Padded but not insulated, poor insoles.

Get half to one size larger than your street shoes, replace the insoles, wear a liner and outer sock, grease them with Obenauf wax and you will be good to go for everything but extreme cold. These will last through two or three resoles so really a good bargain.

I have had both Rocky and Danner's loose their soles at inopportune times, like coming down a steep trail in the dark or slogging through ankle high mud.

I've always liked lace to toe boots, so these are high on my short list.
Taller, so less ankle flex, and the lacing, makes for a better fit.

I'd never put a price on boots, I could care less what they cost,

if they fit well, are well made and won't cause any issues halfway up the mountain.

Only you can find the right boot, try many on, and you'll know real quick.

I can buy a new truck easier than new boots,

But for me, I start with Lowa's in wide width.

Ebay !
Paid 100 bucks ! Lightly used, as seen by the pic.
I had a pair of low tops, some years ago, and wore them out.
For that price, I'll try them, and not out much if I dont like these ones.
600 gram insulation, gortex, air bob soles, full leather, and lace to toe.
Yeah, I'll buy used ones that look like that.

Those are good boots. Avoid solvent or silicone type waterproofing. I think this was a factor in mine completely loosing the soles. The mid sole just disintegrated. Ozone may have also been a factor. Check them before each major trip. I hope Danner improved the mid-sole on yours.

It is possible mine were defective as I bought them at a big discount.
